Historia
When a police detective is taken off life support after falling into a coma, only an autopsy reveals the murderous act that precipitated her death. She'd been working on a special task force within North London's Nigerian community, and Acting Detective Superintendent Thomas Lynley is assigned to the case, which has far-reaching cultural associations that have nothing to do with life as he knows it. In his pursuit of a killer determined to remain hidden, he's assisted by Detective Sergeants Barbara Havers and Winston Nkata.

Good but depressing story
Revisado: 03-16-22
What made Elizabeth George's stories special was the relationship between Lindsay and Barbara. They are barely together in this book. Therefore, the book lost most of its magic for me.

Boring and unsophisticated
Revisado: 01-10-22
The main character, Alfie, was so overdramatic and overplayed. When there was an opportunity to help the reader understand why Alfie was the way he was it was not taken. That's where I thought it was going to get interesting. This story is too predicable and simplistic. I have listed to nearly 500 books and only regret wasting my time and money on a handful of stories. I'll be adding this one to that list.

Gibby's older brothers have already been to war. One died there. The other came back misunderstood and hard, a decorated killer now freshly released from a three-year stint in prison. Jason won't speak of the war or of his time behind bars, but he wants a relationship with the younger brother he hasn't known for years. Determined to make that connection, he coaxes Gibby into a day at the lake: long hours of sunshine and whisky and older women.

Take care - this book is brutal.
Revisado: 05-31-21
This book is so brutal I almost stopped listening. The overall story, especially the ending, is preposterous. The father figure is so weak and useless and, in my opinion, a waste of a character. Mr. Hill wanted to honor soldiers with regard to a specific event in the Vietnam war but unfortunately, he missed the mark in doing so. Not your typical John Hart novel and I've listened to, or read, all his previous books. The narration on the other hand was excellent.

Awful
Revisado: 03-21-20
There are times when you're listening and you say "people don't talk like that" or, "that's way over the top" or, "this is simply just foolish". Well, I said that numerous times during this book. I"ve been an audible member for over 10 years. I don't write reviews, good or bad, because I simply don't have time. However, I am taking the time to write this because I think the author needs to put a bit more effort into her writing and you may want to choose another book. This has to be one of the worst books I've ever listened to. I think the narrator did a very good job.

The worst book I have listened to in ten years
Revisado: 05-28-16
What would have made What She Knew better?
A believable story. Instead it was mind numbing! I kept listening because I simply could not believe it could get worse, but it did. It just went on and on and on with no substance. The writing is immature, story was slow and the detective character was a sorry excuse for cop. You simple shake your head and say "are you kidding me?" I said that a lot. Do not waste your money. Also, I have been listening to books for over a decade and I have only written a few reviews. I am taking the time to write this because I do not want anyone else to waste their time.

Good book for a teenager
Revisado: 01-17-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If half the book were removed. The beginning was really good and the last ten minutes but that's about it.
What could Nora Roberts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
There were times when I wanted to throw my ipod out the car window. Some parts were very clever but the majority of the book was very immature. I simply wanted to scream!
How did the narrator detract from the book?
No, the narrator was fantastic

Historia
In the middle of a rainy Swedish summer, a little girl is abducted from a crowded train. Her distraught mother was left behind at the previous station in what seemed to be a coincidence. The train crew was alerted and kept a watchful eye on the sleeping child. But when the train pulled into Stockholm Central Station, the little girl had vanished. Inspector Alex Recht, assisted by the investigative analyst Fredrika Bergman, are assigned to what at first appears to be a classic custody fight. But then the child is found dead....

Good book unforunately very very bad narration
Revisado: 10-25-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
The book was good but the narration was unbearable
What didn’t you like about Justine Eyre’s performance?
This is a book about a serial killer and this person's voice is more suited for an erotic storyline. Even then it would not have the effect one would hope for because it's so annoying! Listen to the sample and understand that anything you find that you don't like will be enhanced throughout the book. Did you every listen to a person mimicking an upper class English accent? This is what you will hear every sentence, for real, throughout the book. Just be forewarned.

Historia
Murder. Scandal. Politics. And one billionaire heiress so dangerous in so many ways. An explosive Lucas Davenport thriller from number one New York Times best-selling author John Sandford. All hell has broken loose in the capital. An influential state senator has been caught with something very, very nasty on his office computer. The governor can’t believe it - the senator’s way too smart for that, even if he is from the other party. Something’s not right.

The worst John Sanford book i've every listened to
Revisado: 06-02-13
What would have made Silken Prey better?
Skip this book. Mr. Sanford must have been running up against a deadline because Holy Cow I could not wait until this book finished. It was corny, stupid, inconceivable and not worth my time.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator was the only good thing about this book.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Silken Prey?
I would not have released the book. No editing could have helped.
Any additional comments?
I am so disappointed I can't waste any more time writing about. I need to move on!

Best Kept Secret still a secret
Revisado: 05-09-13
What would have made Best Kept Secret better?
I think Jeffrey should hire Christina from Somerville, MA as a proofreader an critic. I concur with her full assessment. Great job articulating the multitude of issues with this book. Jeffrey should be ashamed of himself to actually publish such a terrible piece of work. His has done, and is capable of, so much better than this. I would consider this a "trash novel". In addition, be aware that this is not the end of a trilogy.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jeffrey Archer again?
yes, but only after reading reviews very carefully.
Would you be willing to try another one of Alex Jennings and Emilia Fox ’s performances?
Yes,
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It passed the time while I was doing housework!
Any additional comments?
Loyalty only goes so far. My respect for Mr. Archer is dwindling. I'd rather wait for a book of quality than have my time wasted. I used to have Mr. Archer on par with Ken Follett but I don't think he can redeem himself from this book.
