Historia
At last, the definitive audiobook about perhaps the best cabin crew dramedy ever filmed: View from the Top starring Gwyneth Paltrow. In Ayoade on Top, Richard Ayoade, perhaps one of the most 'insubstantial' people of our age, takes us on a journey from Peckham to Paris by way of Nevada and other places we don't care about. It's a journey deep within, in a way that's respectful and non-invasive; a journey for which we will all pay a heavy price, even if you've waited for the smaller paperback edition. Ayoade argues for the canonisation of this brutal masterpiece.

Tied for my favorite audiobook
Revisado: 12-16-23
I love this book as much as I love Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. Both are amazing.

Historia
Private eye Eddie Valiant doesn't like Toons - those cartoon characters who live side-by-side with humans. But Eddie will work for a Toon if his cash supply is low enough. So he reluctantly agrees when Roger Rabbit, a Toon who plays straight man (or should that be straight rabbit) in the Baby Herman cartoon series, asks him to find out who's been trying - unsuccessfully - to buy his contract from the DeGreasy Brothers syndicate. Then Rocco DeGreasy is murdered - and Roger is the prime suspect!

Should be a series
Revisado: 11-17-23
The world created by this author is really amazing. I would love to see a streaming series of Eddie Valiant as he works various cases- especially since the streaming companies own such a variety of animated characters that they could include. It’s just so darn clever- there’s no other book like this as far as I can tell. Once you think you’ve got it worked out, it takes a twist you’re not expecting.

It is August 1899, and Thomas Edison proclaims his most amazing invention yet: the Spirit Phone Model SP-1. At nearly the same time, a cocksure young mage named Aleister Crowley inexplicably teleports into the home of Edison's archrival, renowned inventor Nikola Tesla.

Unlike anything I’ve heard on Audible
Revisado: 07-01-23
The story is thrilling and unpredictable- it didn’t follow a monomyth pattern but it all comes together to Ann interesting conclusion in the end.
Honestly the Tesla and Crowley characters just seemed like characters to me and I didn’t think of the historical figures that much through the book.
This is some interesting voice work- it sounds almost like an old radio drama! Truly nothing like I’ve heard on Audible.

Historia
On October 6, 1973, Ted Simon knew there was no going back. He loaded up his 500cc Triumph Tiger in the pouring rain and said good-bye to London. Over four years he rode 64,000 miles round the world. Breakdowns, revolutions, war, a spell in prison, and a Californian commune were all part of his experience, which was colored variously by utter despair and unimaginable joy. He was treated as a spy, a god, a welcome stranger and a curiosity

A motorcyclist’s must-read
Revisado: 05-14-23
This is a wonderful account of the state of the world back in the 70s- not just the western world, not the rich world, but many parts that just don’t get much coverage in the history books. It makes you want to take an extraordinary journey of your own- but I think it just wouldn’t be the same in the world of smartphones and social media. What an account. Must read/ listen.
And pay no attention to that “what an asshole” review- they clearly didn’t understand a chapter or two towards the end. This book isn’t for background listening- you have to pay attention!

With laugh-out-loud funny parenting observations, the New York Times best-selling author and award-winning comedian delivers a book that is perfect for anyone who has ever raised a child, been a child, or refuses to stop acting like one. Along with hilarious and poignant stories he has never shared before, this audiobook is sprinkled with poetry Jen wrote as she navigated the same rocky shores of new parenthood.

What a cocktail of emotions
Revisado: 10-11-22
Nothing is sugarcoated here- It’s a masterful account of the reality of taking care of a little one, and the affects on a marriage, and how love conquers all… sometimes, but sometimes it almost doesn’t.
