This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you have never seen the "Color Me Beautiful" books this might be helpful but, there is a lot of material that is better seen than listened to. She did have some (minutes) of helpful hints for men and some about shopping and calculating the cost per wear which is helpful if you have never been exposed to it.

Has Dress Code turned you off from other books in this genre?

Maybe, as I said there is a lot of information that is better with examples. Was most unhappy with the fact that almost all of the material came right out of the "Color Me Beautiful"books. What did not was shaming and self-promotion.

What didn’t you like about Eve Michaels’s performance?

Her reading was ok but a bit flat. There were constant references to the courses and seminars she teaches and that really began to sound like shameless self-promotion. This did not have to be a 6 and a half hour listen! Ugh!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was upset and frankly could barely drag myself beyond the two hour mark as they were mostly a full on diatribe about the decline of American fashion and the carelessness with which we dress. She's correct of course; I just don't want to hear hours of shaming about it.

Any additional comments?

Find a better book and one with colored examples and buy a hard copy.

More endearing friendship than love of gardening.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book but more as an endearing tale of a great friendship over common interests like gardening and the common life challenges we all face than anything having to do with cultivating a deep love of gardening. That theme seemed far secondary in the story than that of true and deep relationships. Carol Wall has written a nice book and Cynthia Darlow did a very good job with the reading. My only critisim is that the title did seem a bit misleading. A good listen however.

What about Cynthia Darlow’s performance did you like?

I think it is very difficult to constantly shift between accents and Cynthia Darlow does a great job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Learning to Love and Live in the Infernal Azaleas.

Any additional comments?

Like the azaleas you may dislike or think ugly, life too has its moments of full and glorious color. And dispite all evidence to the contrary you can learn to love, appreciate and LIVE with the seasons of both.

What made the experience of listening to Every Lady a Gardener the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed the historical aspect of this reading; the advice of 19th and 20th century lady writers who enjoyed gardening as much as many of us do today. I found the narration, the aristocratic English accent, completely charming and perfect for the reading.

Any additional comments?

I used this as motivation for getting out into my own garden and as inspiration for keeping me there. I listened to it twice while tending the veggies, trimming the ligustrums and planting my own...."DOLLiahas". My only reservation is, on review it is an abridged version. I would love to hear the un-abridged! I found it a beautifully done reading and a lovely and inspiring investment of my time.
