Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Not sure if I liked it or not…
Revisado: 10-17-24
Rambling but strangely compelling story - when I finished it I’m not sure if I liked it or not. The main character is flawed and interesting but also odd. The sex scenes were over the top for my taste. Interesting intersection of motherhood, womanhood, menopause, and marriage. All in all I’m just not sure….

Historia
The Gulag - a vast array of Soviet concentration camps that held millions of political and criminal prisoners - was a system of repression and punishment that terrorized the entire society, embodying the worst tendencies of Soviet communism. In this magisterial and acclaimed history, Anne Applebaum offers the first fully documented portrait of the Gulag, from its origins in the Russian Revolution, through its expansion under Stalin, to its collapse in the era of glasnost.

Worth a listen!

Fascinating and terrible stories about the Gulag. Details which I had no idea of the depth of inhumanity and degradation. Frightening cautionary part of history that isn’t taught (or at least I wasn’t exposed to it…)
