Historia
Bradbury's Mars is a place of hope, dreams, and metaphor - of crystal pillars and fossil seas - where a fine dust settles on the great, empty cities of a silently destroyed civilization. It is here the invaders have come to despoil and commercialize, to grow and to learn - first a trickle, then a torrent, rushing from a world with no future toward a promise of tomorrow. The Earthman conquers Mars...and then is conquered by it, lulled by dangerous lies of comfort and familiarity, and enchanted by the lingering glamour of an ancient, mysterious native race.

First impression
Revisado: 03-08-24
This is my first time reading( listening) anything from Ray Bradbury. I have to say I enjoyed it greatly. In the begining of the book I was kind of lost, but after the first chapter , the book caught my attention till the last. Some chapters were a bit strange , especially the House of Usher one, but overall a great listen.
The story of course was written in 1950s' so there are clear signs of gender inequality , racism etc. Although i found it interetsing that Ray Bradbury imagined lots of modern gadgets and things but he did not imagine gender equality. Women are still given the same role as in 1950's. None of the explorer characters are women and society is mostly patriarchal and male dominated. Even the martian family ( the first chapter ) is male dominated.

Amazing Classic
Revisado: 03-08-24
Patras is a renowned writer in Urdu literature . His work is full of humour and wit. I have read his "Maurhoom Ki yaad Mein" so many times and everytime i enjoy the writer's unique way of narrating the story. Although the extensive use of pure and old literary Urdu words sometime baffles the ordinary native speaker , but it is still a joy to hear. The narrator had wonderful mastery over the correct pronunciation of these words, which is an added bonus as not many can pronounce these words without a hitch. Overall great classic book by a great classic author.

Historia
Carrot has moved into the Wonder Museum—an eclectic collection of taxidermy, shrunken heads, and Mystery Junk owned by her Uncle Earl. For Carrot, it's not creepy at all: she grew up with it. What's creepy is the corridor behind one of the museum walls. There's just no space for a corridor there—or the concrete bunker, or the strange islands beyond the bunker’s doors, or the unseen things in the willow trees. Carrot has stumbled into a horrifying world, and They are watching her. Strewn among the islands are the remains of Their meals—and Their experiments.

Good for one time listening
Revisado: 02-21-24
I stumbled on this book after reading about it on a horror lovers group. So I got it and I tried listening through it, even at times when the story became dragged on. The story was interesting and built a good mystery element . The narrator was good and did a good job of the writing style.
I will try another book from the writer.

Nice narration although some places the story was dragged with too. Sometimes characters were annoying but I think that was the writer’s intentions. Overall good experience . Will look to read more from the writer.

Great stories, but underwhelming narration
Revisado: 02-01-24
I mainly selected this collection because It had stories from some of my favourite great masters of horror . I have both read and listened to these stories from other narrators. Sadly my experience with this collection was not very enjoyable. The narration was not suiting the content that was read. The narrators failed to create an atmosphere with their readings. It seemed too bland and almost cheerful. May be I am used to listening to the excellent narration of Horror Babble works that just creates the most amazing atmosphere for a chilly tale.
The narrators pronunciations and mastery over the language was wonderful. I am sure I will like to hear them reading some other genre.
