Historia
Los Angeles is a city of sunlight, celebrity, and possibility. The L.A. often experienced by Homicide Lt. Detective Milo Sturgis and psychologist Alex Delaware, is a city of the dead. Early one morning, the two of them find themselves in a neighborhood of pretty houses, pretty cars, and pretty people. The scene they encounter is anything but. A naked young man lies dead in the street, the apparent victim of a collision with a moving van hurtling through suburbia in the darkness. But any thoughts of accidental death vanish when a blood trail leads to a nearby home.

I always enjoy John Rubinstein's narration and this one didn't disappoint..

The plot twist on this one was happily unexpected! For once, I was blindsided by the ending which doesn't happen very often. Refreshing!

The story is ok, the narrator is terrible
Revisado: 02-01-24
It was difficult to get through the book because the narrator absolutely sucked. I understand the need to possibly try to show the amount of fear the captive in the story felt but good Lord, let up! If I see another book with the same narrator, it will be a hard no for me.

Historia
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever.

I love Nora Roberts'/J.D.Robb's books and have read (or listened) to most of them. I have to admit I was worried when I started this book that I wouldn't like the story-line. I was wrong. The first few chapters made me think it was going to be a dissection of a mass shooting but it was really just groundwork. As the characters were developed it was easy to become interested in how their lives would intersect. Sure, I figured out right away who was going to be romantically involved with whom, but the story is far more than that. Read this!

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!
Revisado: 05-14-18
This could have been abridged - I skipped the middle 12? 15? chapters out of frustration and an inability to keep focused on the story. The author used many more words than necessary to tell the story. Jumping from the present to the past repeatedly was distracting after the author laid the groundwork for the main character's association with each other. Very predicable.
The female narrator has a very annoying delivery but I like the idea of a male and a female to narrate; just find someone with a better cadence to their voice.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware books are terrific!
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Been John Rubinstein. He's so much better. It would be great if somehow these could be re-released with him doing the narration. He's just so much better.

Disturbing but an EXCELLENT story
Revisado: 03-14-18
Would you consider the audio edition of Before We Were Yours to be better than the print version?
Can't read print version behind the wheel, so I do audio books exclusively.
What did you like best about this story?
The fact it was based on actual events and people, with a good fictional family to tell the story and very well written. Moved at the proper speed and once you get used to going between the past and the present, it's a wonderful, engaging book. Had me in tears several times.
Have you listened to any of Emily Rankin and Catherine Taber ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Nope
Who was the most memorable character of Before We Were Yours and why?
Rill/Mae Your heard breaks for this little girl desperately trying to keep her family together and being thwarted at every turn.
Any additional comments?
I'd really have liked it if the author had better explained Camilla's disappearance - perhaps finding her body when the home was closed or finding she'd been adopted....there never was anything much mentioned about her and in fact, she was largely left out even in the "present" when the sisters found each other. Also, trying to find out what happened to Judy's twin was never explored either. Beside that, this was a great book.

Historia
On a chilly February night, during a screening of Psycho in midtown, someone sunk an ice pick into the back of Chanel Rylan's neck, then disappeared quietly into the crowds of drunks and tourists in Times Square. To Chanel's best friend, who had just slipped out of the theater for a moment to take a call, it felt as unreal as the ancient black-and-white movie up on the screen. But Chanel's blood ran red, and her death was anything but fictional.

BRAVO!
Revisado: 02-09-18
What made the experience of listening to Dark in Death the most enjoyable?
I've listened to or read all 46 of the in Death series. This new one doesn't disappoint. In fact, I've gone back and bought the audio versions of the books I actually read just because Susan Ericksen is the voice of the In Death series.
What did you like best about this story?
Its pace, the story line; it's nice that the Eve Dallas character has evolved and grown, and while still kick-ass, it's so much less of the "I have to solve this with no food and no sleep". Just a great, entertaining read.
What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?
I love, Love, LOVE Susan Ericksen! The in Death series wouldn't be as good without her talented reading. Anyone who doesn't like her narration needs crawl back under their rock or give what she does a try. It's not easy. I've actually looked for books she's narrated just because I appreciate how talented she is. I know without having it said, who Rourke and Peabody and Feeney and McNabb are by just the voice.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really - I love these books, and most all of Nora Robert's/J. D. Robb's books, even the very early ones when she was honing her craft, that I think I've read or listened to everything she's ever written. I have a long commute and Ms. Roberts has been with me for many of those hours spent in the car.
Any additional comments?
I'm looking forward to the next one! I am hopeful a second chapter to Year One is released soon as well. Ms. Roberts is such a prolific writer I can't figure out how she has a life, but I' extremely grateful she is.

In 1906 I was barely over 14 years old, and it was my wedding day. My older sister, Helen, came to my room, took me by the hand, and sat me down on the bed. She said, "You've always been a good girl, Maude, and done what I told you. Now you're going to be a married woman, and he will be the head of the house. When you go home tonight after your party, no matter what he wants to do to you, you have to let him do it. Do you understand?"
