Historia
Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Helpful, with a sly caveat
Revisado: 03-03-22
Some chapters were more informative, in a general sense, than others. Towards the end, there's some commentary about wealth accumulation following the Great Recession of 2009 that sounds like a left-handed backslap to those who have a less sophisticated idea about money. It goes like this: Between the end of World War Two and the 20-teens, America allowed as many as possible to amass enough to live a middle -class life. Towards the early 1980s, that idea was being replaced by an emerging thought that favored greed. The American middle class shrank; a small but growing number of very rich people emerged.
It sounds as if the author is saying those few folks now holding vast amounts of wealth deserve it and everybody else lost out because they didn't pay attention to how the money game is played.

For anyone who wants to make fewer (not less) grammar mistakes, a lively, effective, and witty guide to all the ins and outs of the English language, reminiscent of the New York Times best-seller Eats, Shoots & Leaves.

Slow down the speed. It helps a lot.

I love the title and the cover art. The author knows his subject matter backwards and forward and he explains it briskly in a native British accent.
As a speaker and writer of American English, I tried to follow along. Things improved once I adjusted the narrating speed.

Failure to Engage
Revisado: 01-30-21
I bought this book on a friend's recommendation. Except for Chapter 2, I didn't like it. I guess the point the author is trying to make is by setting example after example of success he witnessed throughout his own career.
The book is overly laden with detail that might be interesting to industry insiders, but might go over the heads if those who are not. It doesn't do much to convince this reader why they should care.

Historia
Why do so many people talk about writing a book but never get the job done? Why do so many start books they never finish? And why is the final product often so much less than what editors and agents want? Because writing is a process, and no steps can be omitted without impacting the quality of the work. As best-selling author William Bernhardt explains, editing begins before you start writing and doesn't end until the book is in print (if then). This book guides writers through that process, explaining what's worth doing and when to do it.

Worth the Time
Revisado: 01-30-21
I''ve made part of a living through writing for several years, but never wanted to write a book. After listening to Excellent Editing, I understand why. I have more respect for those people who have shared copies of the books they've written with me. Most of all, I wanted to better understand the editing process.
Understanding editing gave me a new way to look at my own writing process. Thanks for that, William Bernhardt. I think I'll check out other titles in the Red Sneaker series.

The audiobook was a good choice , even though I didn't know it at the time. For years, I would read, rsread, take notes and never go back and read them over. Maybe once.
I lived with the notion that after doing all of thzt, either I got what I was studying or I didn't. The ideas in "A Mind for Numbers" helped me rethink that.
