I have been an avid fan of Mary Balogh's books since I first began to read REGENCY ROMANCE in the 1990's. This series is; in my opinion; one of her best.

I truly enjoyed; not only this book; but also the entire series. This particular book had both tension & humor; particularly with Lou's motor mouth. It was well written enough to make me want to read straight through without stopping. My only problem with it was to wonder how anyone with Brant's psychological problems could possibly be a successful businessman/criminal.

This is a great new Valdemar series and the one that sent me after SKANADRANNON & the Mage War series.
My only problem with this production was with the performance. One would think that an actor who could do differing accents & voices, would not spend half the book calling MERCS Meres.

I have own all of the books these series. My only wish is that Ms. Moon would reconsider her decision to end her writings about this world. Even if she no longer writes about Paks; she has a new PALLADIAN of Falk; a new KING OF DRAGONS; a new situation with the Lady Forest; a new leader in the north; expecting a child; who also happens to be a GNOME Prince & lastly; but not least; a Deputy Marshall who is a reformed assassin who could be featured in their own seriex.

I began this book several times before actually settling down to read it. I thought it was going to prove to be something I Did not like.
Once I got into the FBI investigation
I began to really enjoy the book. I was certain that I had figured out "Who Done It" several chapters before the end of the book. I was truly surprised to discover that the killer was not who I had guessed.
That does not often happen. The book was a real mail biter, one of those that are impossible to put down

I dearly love the entire series & recently emailed Mrs Moon suggesting she pick up with some of the other characters..such as Arvid or Dorrin or the new DRAGON King in anther series. I would love to see the story continue..
I would also like to know why the "scroll" sent to her family was incomplete
I recommend this to all lovers of epic adventure fantasy

I have thoroughly enjoyed this entire series. it was one of the more exciting series that I have read in recent years. All 4 books were true page turners which left me anxious to begin the next in the series as soon as I finished th previous one
Having purchased the series in e-book & then added AUDIBLE'S narration made it very easy to read the books when I could sit & read or listen to the recording when I was busy.
