Late bloomer
Revisado: 01-12-18
I love Mary Balogh. I think I’ve read or listened to most of her books. Some of her books grab you from page one. Some take some time. This book, although excellent, is one of the latter. The start was a bit drawn out. To the point that I almost gave up. The best part of this book are the last eight or nine chapters. I’m glad I plowed through because there is payoff. Rosalyn Landor is superb!

Unlike his scandalous brothers, Benedict is in no danger of ending up in the scandal sheets - until he meets her. Bathsheba Wingate, is a member of the DeLucey family - the rotten side - notorious for being cheats, frauds, and swindlers.

Historia
hnny Harris is home again, his too-tight jeans and damn-your-eyes belligerence honed to perfection by a ten-year stretch in federal prison for murder. Now he’s out on parole and ready for the job Rachel Grant has promised him to help him begin a new life. Unlike the rest of the town, Rachel has always believed in her former student’s innocence. But one thing has changed. The sullenly handsome boy she remembers is still sullen, still handsome - but no longer a boy.

Still a great read and even better listen
Revisado: 04-28-14
Would you listen to One Summer again? Why?
Yes, without hesitation! I loved this book when it just came out in print. I was a little reluctant to buy the audio because I was afraid it would disappoint. It did not! Kate Fleming is a great reader and made the characters come to live.
What was one of the most memorable moments of One Summer?
Not one specific moment. More the theme, which is of faith and total trust. Rachel's belief in Johnny's innocence is touching.
Have you listened to any of Kate Fleming’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I have not but plant to looks for other books where she is the reader.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
When I first read it, yes. Some tears were shed. Although poignant, I think the way Ms. Fleming read the book had an even keel tone.
Any additional comments?
Love this book. Well worth the credit!!!

Historia
Ripped from her dying mother's arms, Morgana Fowler was cast into a life of desperate thievery. In the arms of her gallant protector, she is helpless against the longing he elicits within her.

Hoodwinked by reviews
Revisado: 10-25-13
Would you try another book from Shirlee Busbee and/or Caroline Kinsolving?
Not if it is like this one. I listened to this book thinking that it was going to get better, but it did not.
What was most disappointing about Shirlee Busbee’s story?
The main characters - both immature and really silly. He is mean, petty, judgemental and a jerk. She is ridiculous, indecisive, a "victim". The second part of this book is a total waste. If the book had stuck with only the first and third parts, I think I would rate it as tolerable.
What about Caroline Kinsolving’s performance did you like?
Her narration is what kept me wanting to continue to listen to this book
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger, frustration and annoyance.
Any additional comments?
Total waste of a credit!!!!!

Where does The Witness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
At the very top. Loved the story, Abigaile, Brooks, Bert and all the characters.

The main characters. Made for each other. She who did not believe in fate met her match in him who lived his life believing in fate.
What about Julia Whelan’s performance did you like?
Fantastic. Her narrative brought the characters to life with all the nuances of sorrow, happiness, vulnerability, hope and desire for love. She gave life to each of the characters in this book, especially Abigaile and Brooks!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Abigaile realizes that she can have the life she had only thought was possible!
Any additional comments?
One of Ms. Robert's best books. I am in awe of her and have great admiration for her prodigious talent!!!! Keep them coming, please!
