Historia
All is not well in the Eight Kingdoms. In Lyonya, King Kieri is about to celebrate marriage to his beloved, the half-elf Arian. But uncanny whispers from the spirits of his ancestors continue to warn of treachery and murder. A finger of suspicion has been pointed toward his grandmother, the queen of the Ladysforest elves, and that suspicion has only intensified with time and the Lady’s inexplicable behavior.

Great narrator
Revisado: 04-21-20
This will be brief...Jennifer Van Dyck should have performed all of the Paks and Paladin books both for talent and continuity. The changing of narrators really impacts the story quality. I really like her and will look for her performing other books I might get.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 04-21-20
It is a credit to Elizabeth Moon's Paladin series that I am gritting my teeth and listening to book 4 read by Angela Dawe. All during the Paks and Paladin series, there have been changes in readers. Some are just okay and some really good. But Dawe is the worst I have experienced. One thing that really bugs me about a series is the changes in pronunciation and accents when/if a new reader takes over. I would prefer keeping the same readers but at the very least, new readers should listen to the one that came before to get the same pronunciations and basic accents. The continuity makes a huge difference in story quality. I have finally figured out that there are story performers and then just readers who may or may not have the same talent. To be sure, I will be checking for this reader on any book I get in the future and will probably not listen to anything she does. This is the sad reality of all of James Michener's books...the reading is dated and is absolutely terrible which bugs me since I am a huge fan of his work. Much as I am enjoying the Paladin series, I am getting ready for the final one but if Dawe is reading it, I may just skip it and read it in print. I rarely give bad reviews but this one...well...I hope you enjoy her more than I have

Historia
The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.
