The creator of Deadwood and NYPD Blue reflects on his tumultuous life, driven by a nearly insatiable creative energy and a matching penchant for self-destruction. Life’s Work is a profound memoir from a brilliant mind taking stock as Alzheimer’s loosens his hold on his own past.

A wonderful and insightful listen
Revisado: 09-23-22
I picked this book because I am a fan of NYPD Blue, but the book is so much more than that. It's a trip through the life of an F^%$ up that was a great writer, one who was able to bring characters to the screen that were as close to real life as you'll ever get. With flaws and idiosyncrasies. that we all have but rarely brought to the screen. Michael Harney does an excellent job with the narration. You think you're listening to Milch himself. All in all a great listen.

Nate doesn’t want to listen. He’s between missions and just wants to relax, not to travel hundreds of miles and hunt for the driver of the car that hit someone he doesn’t even know. But ignoring the call is not an option. What Nate had hoped would be a simple mission turns into something much more sinister, when he discovers a wide-reaching evil, festering in a small Northern California town. To confront it, he will need all the skills he’s learned working in the shadow world.

This was my first Brett Battles novel and it won't be my last. I enjoyed this listen. Zach Villa did a good job with the narration. It was first person and his voice was perfect for the character.

Historia
Lou Gehrig was the Iron Horse, baseball's strongest and most determined superstar, struck down in his prime by a disease that now bears his name. But who was Lou Gehrig, really? Lou Gehrig is regarded as the greatest first baseman in baseball history. Shy and socially awkward, Gehrig was a misfit on a Yankee team that included drinkers and hell-raisers, most notably Babe Ruth.

A great story and wonderful naration
Revisado: 05-29-21
I had this book on my wish list for some time and decided to listen to it. should have a long time ago. I knew just the basics of Lou Gehrig,s story. this brought just enough of his life into focus without going into a lot of detail that can often get tedious. Edward Hermann was the perfect narrator for this book. I have over 300 books in my audible library, this is one of the best.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Historia
Millions of Americans have lost confidence in our political and economic system. After years of stagnant wages, volatile job markets, and an unwillingness by those in power to deal with profound threats such as climate change, there is a mounting sense that the system is fixed, serving only those select few with enough money to secure a controlling stake. With the characteristic clarity and passion that has made him a central civil voice, Robert B. Reich shows how wealth and power have interacted to install an elite oligarchy, eviscerate the middle class, and undermine democracy.

interesting ideas about our governmental system
Revisado: 05-27-20
the more I hear from Robert Reich the more I agree and respect his views. His nation is easy to listen to and he presents his ideas in an organized manner. if this sounds to dull, it's not. it is entertaining. He has got me thinking about our system and must how it is run. A good listen.

Great learning experience for a new vegetarian
Revisado: 06-18-19
I first was convinced to remove meat from my diet after reading Protenaholic by Garth Davis, I then ran across How Not to Die and just finished listening to it. What a great book, it gove over some of the ground that Davis did, but goes into detail about what foods to eat that can help in preventing some diseases. it is read by Dr. Greger and sometimes that can be a problem, but not here. I don't think anyone could have done a better job of reading this book. His. enthusiasm for the subject, which could have been very bland, comes through in every page. More then once I found myself laughing at his humor and his voice inflection. In the book, Dr. Gregor talks about the fact that he traveled across the country for some time giving hundreds if not thousands of lectures and you end up learning how to speak from all that experience and that shows in the reading of this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't want to die. (from heart disease, cancer, to much salt and many other diseases.

Historia
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Love this book
Revisado: 11-04-18
I bought this book because it was on an Audible sale. I found it to be one of the best books I have listened to in a long time. Quite often the Author should not narrate his own books but this was not the case with Sam Hell, Dogoni did a great job narrating the book. I'll listen to this again, it was that good. This was my first book by Dogoni but I have already got another one.

Revisado: 05-11-18
This was enjoyable listen, the story of some of the greatest aircraft in history. I have been an aviation buff since my youth in the 60s when you could write to aircraft manufacturers and they would send you 8x10 photos of their plains. I would read books on WWII air war, go to air shows and knew all the different military aircraft of the time. Skunkworks brought that all home to me. Well written and narrated. The story of the U2, SR71 and the F117 was fascinating. for anyone interested in the history of aviation after WWII, read this book. You won't be disappointed. I was sorry to get to the end.

Historia
In August 1968 NASA made a bold decision: In just 16 weeks, the United States would launch humankind's first flight to the moon. Only the year before, three astronauts had burned to death in their spacecraft, and since then the Apollo program had suffered one setback after another. Meanwhile, the Russians were winning the space race, the Cold War was getting hotter by the month, and President Kennedy's promise to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade seemed sure to be broken.

A riveting real life story
Revisado: 10-27-17
Apollo 8 was one of my favorite listens. A tremendous real-life story of the first manned Apollo mission to the moon. Well written and researched with excellent narration. It was a great story about an exciting part of our nation's history that I had lived through. I was almost 14 years old in December of 1968 but don't remember much about that mission. I think Apollo 8 kind of got lost after we landed on the moon a little over six months later, but it was a history-making event, and this book is a must listen for anyone wanting to know more about that period in history. As it said in the book, 1968 as perhaps the most violent year in America's recent history, but Apollo 8 saved 1968. This book was so good I will want to revisit it.
