Historia
Peter Wolf grew up in the Bronx, a child of “fellow travelers” whose artistic inclinations influenced both his love of music and his initial desire to become a painter. Stories of his loving and sometimes eccentric parents complement scenes depicting a very young Bob Dylan as he arrived on the Greenwich Village folk scene. Reflections on Wolf’s studies in Boston—where he shared an apartment with David Lynch—are braided with accounts of first love, an untraditional literary education, and early musical influences such as Muddy Waters.

Good story telling
Revisado: 04-10-25
I was a big J.Geils Band fan and a fan of music bios, so I had to check this out. Seemingly Peter was in the right place at the right time a bunch of times. The book is told in short essays and is more an album of interesting life snap shots than a full on autobiography. His narration is really good, the stories are engaging.
If you’re a music fan I highly recommend it!

Very good book, but…
Revisado: 01-04-25
I have lost track of how many times a narrator has been dinged for mispronouncing names or places. This narrator is a good reader but so many mispronounced names… it did get a bit annoying but the book s very good

Historia
FitzChivalry - royal bastard and former king’s assassin - has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire. Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past...and his future.

Great story
Revisado: 02-08-24
I have become a big fan of Robin Hobb’s books, mostly. I really love the Fitz tales and that it’s written in first person. The Rain Wild stuff not as much. I did enjoy the first live ships trio, but the second really did seem like a meh romance story and I abandoned it though I may try again later.
I agree with those that dislike when narrators are changed. Elliot Hill is a good reader but like many other series it seems like he didn’t bother to hear what came before. Also, his choice of some of the voices was just cartoonish and silly.
Never the less this is a series that is very enjoyable, just go with the weird voices and get in to the story

With original research and keen insights, Ted Gioia - the author of a landmark study of West Coast jazz and the critically acclaimed The History of Jazz - brings to life the stirring music of the Delta, evoking the legendary figures who shaped its sound and ethos: Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, B. Well told story
Revisado: 09-11-22
Overall, I liked this book very much. I do have one little gripe I want to mention. There is no mention of Little Bighorn which I would imagine was pretty big news. Other than that I would recommend the book as an easy read, well told

Historia
Harvey Brooks first came to the public’s attention when he played on the classic Bob Dylan album Highway 61 Revisited, released in 1965, to great acclaim. Since then, he has played with everyone, from Miles Davis to Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Electric Flag, Al Kooper, John Cale, and many others. This is his story, told from his own perspective, which includes first-hand accounts of such historical events as the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, as well as his esteemed career as a sought-after studio musician and staff producer for Columbia Records.

Historia
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Great reader, really good story
Revisado: 08-08-17
Any additional comments?
First off, the reader is really good. The story is also quite good though I thought the sex scenes were a bit silly and stereotyped and so they could have been edited out. The characters are really good and so well voiced.
I did really enjoy it, but it seemed, all in all, like a screenplay setup. I guess what I mean is that the story is a good one but could be a bit better told. For sure worth a listen

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I saw the movie. It was standard Hollywood crap. I read the reviews for this and thought it sounded worth a listen. The performances are terrific. The bits of narrative are pretty good as well, but I'm left with the impression that, overall, there is no actual story. That may be because of the abridged version (always a terrible idea). Anyway, any high school kid that had seen one episode of The Walking Dead or Night of The Living Dead could give you the whole plot is a paragraph.
What could Max Brooks have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Plot twists...
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Great
