Best new book I’ve heard in years

I can see why most reviewers don’t get it. As with all of my favourite novels they either get five stars for one star and there’s very little inbetween. I think probably you need to have some philosophical communion with the writer’s state of mind, or at least be completely open to imagination. I found it very insightful and beautiful and hilarious. The only other books it reminded me of were Hunter S Thompson at his freeflowing wildest and a book by Andy Kaufman that I don’t think anyone ever read called the Huey Williams story. At its most basic, it could be considered a combination of memoir and imagination and even on that level be an excellent book, but really, it’s questioning of what truth and human perception even is. The stuff that he’s getting at cannot be limited to human language, but he’s had a damn good crack at it.

Been listening to all Richard Brautigan’s books since they popped up in the Included section and this has been my favourite. I’m finding his style delightful and this one especially beautiful and funny. I really loved The Hawkline Monster and Dreaming Of Babylon too.
