Among the many gifts of this work is having the author tell the stories. It seems to be as it should.

Historia
Nelson Mandela is a global icon of peace and justice. An influence to human rights activists in South Africa, across the continent and on the Western and Eastern hemispheres, he is seen as an example to follow. Through his resilience, he showed tremendous courage in fighting against apartheid, to enduring the harsh conditions of prison on Robben Island, to leading a free and democratic South Africa as its first Black President and as leader of the African National Congress.

Captures Mandela's essence
Revisado: 07-07-21
A brief review of Mandela's life and a few, key teachings. Conveys more than what I was exposed to in US public school in the 60's, though that says little. Certainly worth the 75 minute investment.

One person talks; the other listens. It's so basic that we take it for granted. Unfortunately, most of us think of ourselves as better listeners than we actually are. Why do we so often fail to connect when speaking with family members, romantic partners, colleagues, or friends? How do emotional reactions get in the way of real communication? This thoughtful, witty, and empathic book has already helped over 100,000 people break through conflicts and transform their personal and professional relationships.

Please listen to my entire comment
Revisado: 03-07-20
I had difficulty listening and thought I might do better reading the text. As I heard certain key points, perhaps about a situation where I felt unheard, movies about my own life would begin to play in my mind. Of course, the audio kept playing and I would miss a passage (I wasn't listening.). In written text, I stop reading when distracting thoughts arise. Then I realized that these distractions with the audio were signals to repeat and pay particular attention to the material where I drifted off. The more trouble I had with distraction, the more I would benefit from considering the points being made. I repeated many sections and will listen to the entire text again. The text is well and clearly written. My problem is not with the book, it is with listening. Life is simple, it's just not easy.

Historia
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s account of the first successful large-scale application of nonviolent resistance in America is comprehensive, revelatory, and intimate. King described his book as "the chronicle of 50,000 Negroes who took to heart the principles of nonviolence, who learned to fight for their rights with the weapon of love, and who, in the process, acquired a new estimate of their own human worth."

No less important than when written
Revisado: 04-27-19
An important read. The introduction, written from a today's perspective, adds much. For those of an age to remember the events as current or recent, the words and events remain powerful and even perhaps more powerful.

Historia
From the Sunday Times top ten bestselling author of The Psychopath Test, a captivating and brilliant exploration of one of our world's most underappreciated forces: shame. 'It's about the terror, isn't it?' 'The terror of what?' I said. 'The terror of being found out.' For the past three years, Jon Ronson has travelled the world meeting recipients of high-profile public shamings. The shamed are people like us - people who, say, made a joke on social media that came out badly, or made a mistake at work.

Lessons the country and all people need to learn
Revisado: 09-07-18
If the tales were not true, I doubt one could believe it. The story of this land and what has become of it at the hands of people is timeless. Timeless in part because we continue to make the same devastating mistakes. Here is an fascinating opportunity to hear the lessons. I am hopeful this book can have a positive impact.
