Historia
This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Great to listen to, story a bit overrated
Revisado: 07-02-22
The story is good, the author put a Tolkien like effort in creating a world, with languages, geography and magic system, and the story is quite good albeit predictable. Kept me listening though. My only gripe is, it seems to be aimed at (young) children and I wasn't informed of that by any of the reviews or the author. If you are 10-18 years of age, great, listen! If older, think twice, try the first chapter or so.

Returned - couldn't follow the story
Revisado: 05-07-22
Really wanted to like this book, but the narration is hard to follow and from what I read on internet, not real but simulated 'Irish'.

Historia
When Russian President Valeri Volodin's ambitions are foiled in Dagestan, he faces a difficult choice. The oligarchs who support him expect a constant flow of graft, but with energy prices cratering, the Russian economy sputters to a virtual halt. Unable to grow the Russian market at home, his hold on power relies on expansion abroad—a plan that has been thwarted by the United States in the past. But this time Volodin has determined that an indirect approach is the best.

Very interesting listen in 2022...
Revisado: 03-16-22
This book almost seems about the current invasion of Ukraine. Very interesting to listen. Gives some context about the present, but also current events place the book in it's context. In times of war there is a lot of propaganda. As an European I feel the United States is overly portrait as the 'good guy' and Russia as the 'bad guy'. Missed some depth and realistic complexity there. Did like the distinction between national leaders, government, soldiers and especially: the people. Their actions and convictions aren't necessarily the same. There are good and bad (actions by) Americans, Europeans and Russians, as with all people.

Enjoyed the narrating, liked Conqueror more
Revisado: 10-27-20
Enjoyed the narrating, liked Conqueror more. This story is a bit to straight forward and fast paced to my liking, missing some culture and depth. Even with the surprising developments that happen to some character. Still, enjoyed it a lot.

The first book in the best-selling Conqueror series featuring Genghis Khan and his descendants. Temujin, the second son of the khan of the Wolves tribe, was only 11 when his father died in an ambush. His family were thrown out of the tribe and left alone, without food or shelter, to starve to death on the harsh Mongolian plains. It was a rough introduction to his life, to a sudden adult world, but Temujin survived, learning to combat natural and human threats.

Combines action with real character depth and love
Revisado: 05-31-19
Wonderful book. I really like books with special forces, technology and good storyline. Those are quite plentiful. This book has that, however, it also has much character depth and especially a heartwarming and relatable way of describing the relation wirh some of our dearest friends, which aren't necessarily human.
The narrating is great, captures emotion and tension flawlessly. Will look up more books performed by Ballerini.

Kept listening in my car, long after I arrived.
Revisado: 01-23-19
Just didn't want to stop listening.
Trevor tells his story about growing up, growing up in South Africa, about how apartheid affected everyone from with to Black and in-between, about family and finding your way in life.
Being a true story, lived, written and told by Trevor gives it much extra weight, dynamics and makes you respect him and other the grew up in similar settings.
His fun, cut-the-crap and honest accounts make it into an enjoyable, moving and at the same time educational piece.
Will share with friends, definitively!

Wonderful. Insightful en thought provoking
Revisado: 03-11-18
One of the most interesting books I've ever read (err, listened to). If you just read Sapiens from Harari, then you might find the first chapters to be full of information you've just read. However, this information is needed to build up the whole argument for those who haven't read Sapiens. Great performance by Derek Perkins, who has a great voice and narrating style, perfect for this type of book.
