Historia
Frederick Fife was born with an extra helping of kindness in his heart. If he borrowed your car, he’d return it washed with a full tank of gas. The problem is there’s nobody left in Fred’s life to borrow from. At eighty-two, he’s desperately lonely, broke, and on the brink of homelessness. But Fred’s luck changes when, in a bizarre case of mistaken identity, he takes the place of grumpy Bernard Greer at the local nursing home. Now he has warm meals in his belly and a roof over his head—as long as his poker face is in better shape than his prostate and that his look-alike never turns up.

Made me feel warm
Revisado: 03-08-25
Such a positive ending, needed at this time. Narration was good overall, had a few moments when I wasn't sure what character he was in, and also didn't care for voicing of younger child - just my objection to whining, perhaps.

Returned it
Revisado: 10-27-24
The premise was promising, it sounded, expecting a quirky mystery-fantasy-touch of time travel. Well, yes, there's some of that, not so quirky, and honestly boringly trite, in my opinion. Female oppression from the get-go. But mostly annoyed, to the point of returning it, by poorly written and developed characters of Martha, etc, many of which I, often, found cringe-worthy. Just nope, sorry. I wanted to like it.

Once I realized that Maude was going to be a minor character I was hooked. Excellent narration more than held my interest with a mostly fact-based account of WWI women volunteers. An eye-opening perspective of wartime activities and sacrifices.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Not a Sci-Fi fan yet this is a riveting story line
Revisado: 08-31-23
But I am not sure I will finish it.
PS - I did finish it, after a week's break.
Yes, quality writing and quality narration, with technical info to make it sooo believable. At 4hrs I was hooked!!
But the copious facts, and astronomy, and mathematics and the "holy moly" surprises go on and on and on. And on. Just too much second by second, play by play, thought by thought, thinking out loud for me. By 10hrs, I was worn down. No.More.Please.
[Thankfully Grace WAS in a mute coma those first 13+-(?) years.]
Straat was cool though.

Historia
During a trip to Europe, Christopher Newman, a wealthy American businessman, asks the charming Claire de Cintre to be his wife. To his dismay, he receives an icy reception from the heads of her family, who find Newman to be a vulgar example of the American privileged class. Brilliantly combining elements of comedy, tragedy, romance and melodrama, this tale of thwarted desire vividly contrasts nineteenth-century American and European manners.

Such annoying narration
Revisado: 05-18-23
I tried hard to enjoy the story line, which seemed promising. Killavey sounds like he is an early poor quality atrempt at electronically read text. He especially butchers narration of conversations, particularly what might be efforts to imitate French or British accents? Painful at times. Too bad.

Totally absorbed!
Revisado: 04-17-23
I use Audibles as a bedtime "snack", 30-60-90 minutes each evening when settling in. This story though...not a responsible snack for me, as I kept resetting the timer for another 30mins, "over-ate" terribly and lost sleep, far beyond my responsible bedtime. Captivated by anticipated and satisfying plot twists, it did end in a way I'd hoped. If you enjoy WWI-II period fiction this should be quite satisfying.

Revisado: 04-01-23
Enthralled with Barbara Davis' writing of Soline's history and conversations, as well as Soline's narration. Plot twists kept me anticipating. Hoped there was going to be more "dress witch magique". Rory's narrator voice changed, bouncing between chapters which was confusing, and men's voices where pretty lame. Overall I would certainly recommend this an may look for other books by this author.

Not technical enough for me but an okay intro.
BUT horrible, somewhat painful narration, and perhaps this book should include a coupon for post-listening agita. Eric mispronounced words unfamiliar to him, a pet peeve of mine, and took no or ineffective pauses where they were certainly expected. Just because he can read doesn't mean he should be paid to do for the public. 👎
