Excellent story, retelling or not

A good part 2

A direct continuation of book one. Still well written and keeps you involved. Brings this story to a conclusion with plenty of material for the next chapter. Will be looking forward to reading more.
Narrator is the same as the first book but by now he has become the story so I didn’t notice any issues. Good job with various voices as usual.

Well written story of good and evil

This was a very well written story that really draws you in. Different story lines woven together to make a compelling narrative. Looking forward to the next book.
The narrator took a bit of getting used to but was not dry enough to cause me to stop listening. Good character differentiation.

A Really Good Tale

My first read from this author and a very enjoyable experience. Almost a murder mystery but set in a magical world with dungeons and a mage society. This story revolves around a student attending a mage academy. This means the story is likely aimed at a young adult audience but I did not find this fact to reduce the story quality at all. Story was well told with no foul language or sexual undertones. There is some leveling like a game but the focus is on the story not the RPG elements. Which is good because this is not a LitRPG. However, That is my one issue with this story. We are in a magical world NOT a video game. So why does every chapter end with "Saving File" along with a statement about location and current quest as well as enemy/friend status? Makes no sense whatsoever.
But as long as you ignore the end of chapter nonsense, this is a very well done story with pretty decent narration. Also, this story is complete in this volume. No cliffhanger ending that makes you get the next book to find out what happens. I will definitely be looking to continue in this series.

Although I did receive a free review copy of this audiobook, what I have left here is my unbiased opinion. Hope this helps you in selecting your next great listen.

A good story

This story is in a genre that I like. That said, this was a good variation of the idea of a second chance at life.
As for the writing, the author has some issues with historical facts that are probably not even necessary for the story. Driving an old beater of a ‘48 Chevy “C10” with a “Small Block” has a few things wrong with it. Not sure when Chevy started using the “C10” moniker but I believe it wasn’t till the sixties and I know that the “small block” didn’t even come out until ‘55. As this part of the story takes place in ‘58, not much of that is possible. This is only the first and for me the most glaring example of the author’s poor research. Others are clothing and how people acted in the fifties.
Overall I liked the story and will continue the series. Just don’t expect historical accuracy if you want to enjoy this series for yourself.

Space Detective story

This was your basic detective story moved onto a space elevator. The series will continue on a spaceship and this story is setting the scene and tone of what is coming. A fairly well written story with lots of action and predictable characters. The narration fits the story well but was bland as the old detective stories are. The narration needs editing as there is at least one major mistake that should have been edited as well as a few minor details that were noticeable. Overall a good story that is worth a listen and a good start to the series.
