lasting message from a giant that went home
Revisado: 03-20-24
No man of this era has meant more to me than Steve Farrar, yet I never had the honor of meeting him in person. I had read the majority of his books over the past 20 years of walking with Jesus, but not Point Man. His style is of a father and friend in a matter of fact style that resonates. When I heard of his death a couple years back I was honestly grieved. Then I also heard he had just finished a revised update to Point Man, yet I waited to read and somehow stalled. Then I noted this audio version. Seeing Stu Weber was the reader I was encouraged. What a wonderful tribute to a great man of God. I told my wife husbands and wives should listen to it together every 5-7 years until their kids turn 20 and fathers should read it once in between. It is is that rich and full of wisdom!

Dallas Willard was a profound thinker and follower of Christ. I may not agree with him 100%, but that certainly doesn't detract from his work or thinking. Esy too much to learn from the humble man.

Historia
Before he was the Gray Man, Court Gentry was Sierra Six, the junior member of a CIA action team. In their first mission, they took out a terrorist leader, at a terrible price. Years have passed. The Gray Man is on a simple mission when he sees a ghost: the long-dead terrorist, but he's remarkably energetic for a dead man. A decade of time hasn't changed the Gray Man. He isn't one to leave a job unfinished or a blood debt unpaid.

Historia
Is Atheism Dead? is an entertaining, impressively wide-ranging, and decidedly provocative answer to that famous 1966 Time cover that itself provocatively asked “Is God Dead?” In a voice that is by turns witty, muscular, and poetic, Metaxas intentionally echoes C. S. Lewis and G. K. Chesterton in cheerfully and logically making his astonishing case, along the way presenting breathtaking - and often withering - new evidence and arguments against the idea of a Creatorless universe.

never had a book I loved and disliked so much
Revisado: 04-07-22
I have listened to a number of Metexas books and throughly loved them all. This one has some incredible content that people need to hear and Eric does a great job of pulling it together. Still I have many issues. First some of the recent scientific theories Metexas states as fact. They may be the best and most current ideas but it is disingenuous to say they are settled fact. We wouldn't let the atheists get by with such leaps and we shouldn't either. In other parts he goes on about the high-brow nature of the new atheists yet Metexas seems hell-bent on using as many 5 syllable words as he can. He always has a broad vocabulary but this is over the top and hurts the book in my opinion. The part on the new atheists also seemed to drag on as personal vendetta that stalls the book. Metexas also makes the statement that science is at its end. Such a broad brush statement is also misleading and not true in many aspects, again the broad brush. Final content concern and this is personal in a way. Metexas asserts that the universe is 14...billion years old and anyone who thinks otherwise is silly. For me the jury is out on the age of the universe and dismissing the other side hurts Eric's testimony. Truth is, if God's creation is the greatest miracle, and it is, making certain things look old is nothing! Smart people keep digging for answers please. Lastly the reading delivery of Metexas truly grated on me. Too much emphasis on certain words and hanging words. I sped it up to 1.2 and enjoyed it much better. These are my opinions and others may disagree. I would recommend listening to the book, particularly the first half to 2/3 as it is great stuff. I just know Eric Metexas can do better, and he has with most of of his other works.

Historia
Born a tanner’s son in rugged Ohio in 1822 and battle-tested by the Mexican-American War, Grant met his destiny on the bloody fields of the Civil War. His daring and resolve as a general gained the attention of President Lincoln, then desperate for bold leadership. Lincoln appointed Grant as Lieutenant General of the Union Army in March 1864. Within a year, Grant’s forces had seized Richmond and forced Robert E. Lee to surrender.

The acclaimed biography of the early church's greatest evangelist, the Apostle Paul. Master storyteller John Pollock makes Paul and his amazing story freshly alive, so that you can know the greatest apostle much as Luke and Timothy did as they traveled with him. As you listen, you'll sense Paul's motives, his aims and priorities; what mattered to him; and what he was willing to die for.

Valuable discussion, but lots of questions
Revisado: 12-22-20
First, I greatly admire Dr. Lennox & have the utmost respect for him. However, I do question some of his arguments. I would like a definition of God's sovereignty; at times it feels as if God is thought of as sovereign overseer rather than sovereign creator exercising his will on all of his creation, including every human. There is a difference. Also, Lennox gave an exhaustive definition of faith, but not so much on grace by which you have been saved, Eph. 2:8-9. A reading of the biblical text gives a broad definition of grace well beyond salvation alone that was missed. Additionally, Lennox seems to ignore the divine tension, brought forth mostly by Paul, between God's sovereign will (sure wants & make sure) and human freewill. In the tension is where the truth lies, with God's sovereignty trumping our will at his divine discretion. One final question, Dr. Lennox seems totally comfortable with the LORD'S determination over a people group, but how is that possible without at least some determination over the individuals in the group? There is no simple answer to much of this, it seems; like the tension, we need to fully accept it, although in our human vessels, we are incapable of fully understanding. On an affirming note, I found Lennox's account of assurance, quite good and compelling.
The performer, although adequate, loses the kindly tone that is pure Lennox. Often sounds lofty and just doesn't fit well.

After five years on the run, Court Gentry is back on the inside at the CIA. But his first mission makes him wish he had stayed on the outs when a pair of Chinese agents try to take him down in Hong Kong. Normally the Chinese prefer to stay eyes-only on foreign agents. So why are they on such high alert? Court's high stakes hunt for answers takes him across Southeast Asia and leads to his old friend, Donald Fitzroy, who is being held hostage by the Chinese.
