Historia
To the Jockey Club, the racing world would be a better place without Julius Apollo Filmer. An expert in corruption with a devastating line in witness intimidation, and proving to be a slippery character to put behind bars. Baffled, they call in undercover security agent Tor Kelsey to keep an unflinching eye on Filmer and his associates. A mission that takes him from the finest of English racecourses to the wild Canadian interior, on a luxury transcontinental train journey to end them all.

Yet another riveting plot by Dick Francis and an impeccable performance by Britton. This is one of my favourites.

Historia
The Republic of Gilead offers Offred only one function: to breed . If she deviates, she will, like dissenters, be hanged at the wall or sent out to die slowly of radiation sickness. But even a repressive state cannot obliterate desire - neither Offred's nor that of the two men on which her future hangs....

A must read

This book, gripping and chilling, grabs you from an apocalyptic future and propels you through an intense narrative about a world where religion has become the cruel, sinister dictator we all secretly fear that it could.

Excellent book!
Revisado: 02-01-12
Would you consider the audio edition of We Need to Talk About Kevin to be better than the print version?
Yes, it was even better than the movie.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Kevin did his nuh-nuh-na-na-nuh response to his mother. Ms King portrayed it so perfectly, capturing the arrogance, spite and disdain in the child's voice in a way that chilled the listener.

Narration destroys storyline
Revisado: 02-01-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend the book, not the audiobook. The story is good, but the narrator has ruined it with her poor pronunciation, and her shocking depiction of the hero's voice. It becomes a huge challenge to have any respect for the hero, who is depicted as a strong, iron man, when his voice is portrayed as a sleepy, 90 year old breathless woman.
How could the performance have been better?
Probably by simply having a different narrator. Ms. Greene does not have either the vocabulary nor the voice for this job.
