Historia
“Why is this town called Mother’s Rest?” That’s all Reacher wants to know. But no one will tell him. It’s a tiny place hidden in a thousand square miles of wheat fields, with a railroad stop, and sullen and watchful people, and a worried woman named Michelle Chang, who mistakes him for someone else: her missing partner in a private investigation she thinks must have started small and then turned lethal.

Book could have been done in 20 chapters. Unrealistic story. Most disappointing Reacher novel yet!

What A GREAT Book!!
Revisado: 11-17-23
I had been listening to a different book (almost 1/2 way finished) but I was bored, waiting for the author to get the book going. Then, the Audible app suggested “The Fireground,” and I said, let me just listen to the first chapter. I was hooked! I never went back to the other book, I don’t even remember the title, but as soon as I check the lust in my library, if I find it, I’m going to delete it from my phone.
Loved the way Dervla developed the characters, and merge reader wondering what would happen next. I highly recommend this book!!

Fatigued from the meandering storyline
Revisado: 07-21-23
I was going to wait until I’d heard the book in completion, but I was beginning to enter a state of boredom and felt now was the time to offer a review.
While the book raised some interesting possibilities for the conclusion, regrettably, the author has taken this reader all the way around a field of mulberry bushes to tell the story of Poppy and DS Jenna. I was becoming frustrated with sometimes unnecessary peripheral details.
Then, finally around chapter 24-25, she seemed to lurch forward with relevant material to restore my interest, just about the time I was going to put the book in the circular file. Thankfully, I was brought back to a state of interest and wanted the story to continue.
I may offer more commentary later, but hope the turn of storyline will continue to improve to the conclusion.

Historia
Detective Sam Helsdown hasn’t seen his daughter Zoe in two years and he’s excited and more than a little nervous to be at the airport picking her up for a visit. She’s 10 years old and has flown on her own for the first time. Flight BA631 from Athens has already landed and soon a trickle of people begins entering Arrivals. Among them is a little girl who runs towards him, head down, and throws herself into his arms saying ‘Daddy!’. But then he looks at her properly. This is not Zoe. This is not his daughter.

A good listen
Revisado: 05-01-23
While entertaining, the subterfuge represented by Julia’s real identity, her role as “some sort international crime fighter,” along with her surrender of Zoey to Sam, was implausible.
Despite these matters, the narrator kept me focused on trying to discern the endgame.

Historia
Two words: the bullet. That's all it takes to shatter her life. Caroline Cashion is beautiful, intelligent, a professor of French literature. But in a split second, everything she's known is proved to be a lie. A single bullet, gracefully tapered at one end, is found lodged at the base of her skull. Caroline is stunned. It makes no sense: She has never been shot. She has no entry wound, no scar. Then, over the course of one awful evening, she learns the truth.

Good listen
Revisado: 04-27-23
I loved the storyline, but felt like it took too long to get to the action. The author had given way too much of a buildup to the primary point of the book.
It was very well read, especially gifted French accent for related periods that required it.
The ending was as expected, totally unexpected and made sense. I’d listen to another book by Mary Louise Kelly!!

Historia
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

This was a great mystery. Up until the last chapter, I was sure the kidnapper/murderer was a different character; I even thought it was one of “the good guys.”
I love the tone/voice of the narrator.

Historia
In a case that spans 20 years, Harry Bosch links the bullet from a recent crime to a file from 1992, the killing of a young female photographer during the L.A. riots. Harry originally investigated the murder, but it was then handed off to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved. Now Bosch's ballistics match indicates that her death was not random violence, but something more personal, and connected to a deeper intrigue. Like an investigator combing through the wreckage after a plane crash, Bosch searches for the "black box", the one piece of evidence that will pull the case together.

Another #BoschGift
Revisado: 06-05-22
Bosch is the gift that keeps on giving. As with all of the best crime dramas/mysteries, the best ones keep the listener/reader guessing “Who done it?” Well, Bosch and Donnelly did it again, another well disguised ending that wraps it all up.
I hope Donnelly has no plans of retiring Harry Bosch!

I’m not a cat lover!
Revisado: 03-11-22
I listened to the first chapter and stopped. I’m not a cat person and could not get passed references to “Lassie,” the cat. The thought of Lassie sitting on kitchen counters and tables grossed me out. So, I stopped and looked for another Nick Pirog book. Regrettably, the only Pirog books available were the ones including Lassie. Cat lovers will probably like the book concept, but I’m done!
I like the concept of the book and the reader’s voice, hope it suits you. :)

Two years ago, Dr. Gina Brady broke Thomas Prescott’s heart, but now her panic-stricken satellite phone call starts it beating again with a fury. Thugs kidnapped the good doctor from the remote jungle village where she was working, and now the retired homicide detective’s expert skills are desperately needed to save her. Led by a colorful, but perhaps untrustworthy local guide, Prescott journeys deep into the Bolivian Amazon, plunging into a world where the only thing more dangerous than the gun-toting drug traffickers and the ruthless tribesmen, is the jungle itself.

A really good read(listen)
Revisado: 03-11-22
It’s 3:30 AM (couldn’t sleep due to some pain, so I decided to finish listening to “Jungle Up,” which I started last week. Despite the hour, I decided I couldn’t wait and had to share it with my sister. Since I’ve emailed her my recommended, I decided that since I’m up, I should share with other Nick Pirog fans. Here’s what I wrote my sister:
Hey Sis,
Just finished listening to “Jungle Up” a novel. I think you’d like it, since you love my silliness. It’s one of a series of books by Nick Pirog. I’ve now completed the whole series and love his writing style, the “Thomas Prescott” character, the reader’s voice, and interspersed humor. It’s a mystery/adventure with a number of dramatic and humorous twists and turns.
I think you’ll enjoy.

Revisado: 10-28-21
Great book. Haven’t checked other Brian Freeman titles, I’ve been hooked on Archer Mayor books, but my next Audible credit will be used to purchase a Brian Freeman book. I also hope Joe Barrett will be the reader.
There were plenty of convincing suspects in this mystery, but I was blown away by the actual perps.
