Dolly through the lens of her wardrobe
Revisado: 03-16-25
Dolly is known for her joy. This book allows Dolly to talk about the joy she finds in her history, her wardrobe, her make up, and those that she has around her that helped her with her style. My favorite part of this book was Dolly talking about how her upbringing in the mountains of Appalachia molded her style and her desires to wear her specific style of clothing. For her, her making the clothing choices and makeup choices, was a celebration of where she came from and who she ended up coming to be!

Raw truth about grief and growth
Revisado: 03-06-25
Grief is messy. It’s not pretty. It’s not what we expect. Grief can not be put in a box by people and said it’s wrong if it looks differently than what they think it should look like. This book shows the depth of disbelief, sadness, anger, and confusion that the loss
Of someone we love can bring. While we can’t make grief go away, we can speak our truth that allows us navigate the new waters of life that we are living.

Dream Big and do hard things
Revisado: 12-18-24

In this last book in the “Out of my mind” series, Melody learns that she is capable and that she has strengths and gifts that make her brilliant, and while she feels limited by her lack of voice, she learns to push past her fears to accomplish her dreams!

Historia
What You Are Getting Wrong About Appalachia is a frank assessment of America's recent fascination with the people and problems of the region. The audiobook analyzes trends in contemporary writing on Appalachia, presents a brief history of Appalachia with an eye toward unpacking Appalachian stereotypes, and provides examples of writing, art, and policy created by Appalachians as opposed to for Appalachians. The audiobook offers a much-needed insider's perspective on the region.

Reflections on an elegy
Revisado: 08-22-24
Things are not always as they seem or as they are portrayed. A book that explains one person’s past does not mean it’s the truth for everyone from that region or that group of people. May we seek to see others as they want to be seen, not as we think they should be seen.

Historia
The epic true story of an extreme athlete, a stray dog, and how they found each other—now a major motion picture from Lionsgate starring Mark Walhberg and Simu Liu. When you're racing 435 miles through the jungles and mountains of South America, the last thing you need is a stray dog tagging along. But that's exactly what happened to Mikael Lindnord, captain of a Swedish adventure racing team, when he threw a scruffy but dignified mongrel a meatball one afternoon.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Well written with grace and love
Revisado: 10-18-23
I feel like this book was well written with love, mercy, and grace while still being open and honest about what the author’s life was like growing up. Loved listening to it on audible and hearing the author’s voice and emotion as she told her story.

When 38 jetliners bound for the United States were forced to land at Gander International Airport in Canada by the closing of US airspace on September 11, the population of this small town on Newfoundland Island swelled from 10,300 to nearly 17,000. The citizens of Gander met the stranded passengers with an overwhelming display of friendship and goodwill.

Excellent book that shows a different side of 9/11
Revisado: 08-13-23
Did you know that on September 11th when US airspace closed, that over 35 commercial airliners with over 10,000 passengers were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland? Gander, Newfoundland only has around 6,000 local people who live there on a regular basis, yet they welcomed all of these airline passengers with open arms, open hearts, and open homes. This book tells the real stories of many passengers who were on those flights diverted to Newfoundland, and what their lives looked like in the days to come. This book tells the stories of the locals who came together to show radical hospitality on what is known as one of the most terrifying days in recent history. If you need a reminder of what hospitality and kindness may look like, or what trusting your fellow humans when your life is turned upside down, this book will most definitely do that!
