This is a story about a mid 20 year old girl with a drug problem who exploits adult men, then a child and a teenager. She goes from victim to victim and then the story has no resolution at the end. You get the idea after two men and there was no point in continuing reading. Alex is not evil but the reader cannot have any sympathy for her. It is not worth the time to listen to this book. The reader is as manipulated into continuing the book as the protagonist manipulates a string of people. I would have not finished the book if I weren’t reading it for my reading group.

In this social media world we live in, where we compare our insides to others outsides, Isaac Mizrahi's memoir is what we need.
His truthful personal story of being born an outsider and his struggles to create his own life are heartening and inspiring and overall just make you feel less lonely and more human.

Rose McGowan articulates everything you have been thinking and feeling but were too afraid to say out loud for fear of sounding angry or being dismissed as a feminist. Her observations and thoughts are right on target. I hope many women will read this book and that it will cause some much needed change.

Where does House of Names rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Listening to, as opposed to reading this book, adds much to it. It is in the voices of Clytemnestra, Orestes and Elektra, each read by a different reader. And it is fitting to have a Greek legend read to you as it honors the ancient tradition of how the stories were told.

Any additional comments?

If you enjoyed The Master and The Testament of Mary, you will love The House of Names. Colm Toibin outdoes himself in this work. He combines his exceptional ability to imagine the life of legendary figures and make them human by giving them a voice, as well as leaving much to the imagination in what is said and what is unsaid, as in the relationship between Orestes and Leander.

If you enjoy Colm Toibin's writing, you will love these short stories. They are the essence of what he writes about -- what is said, and what is unsaid.
