This is NOT my trope...
Revisado: 07-26-21
In summary: this is a great book starting a promising series. Well-written, erotic more than lewd, and superheroes! This is the best book I've listened to by Anya Merchant so far (and have enjoyed the others) and Alex Ford does an excellent job narrating the book, a virtuoso in character voicing reminding me of Andrea Parsneau in the way she carries the whole book effortlessly. A great read.
The taboo that Ms Anya Merchant excels in writing through her Sin and Soil series is given new life and different perspective and circumstance in this first book in her new series. The taboo is not my thing. Anya Merchant is the only author I've explored in this area and found her Sin and Soil series by happenstance. While there were many things (especially about the MC) that I didn't particularly care for in that one (I have enjoyed the books), I found this story refreshing in its dalliances and entertaining in its world-building. I like superheroes anyway so writing a good story is pretty much the bar I have. Anya has done what all writers do the more they write: they get better. I've only *listened* to her previous series (through Book 4...out of 11 ebooks) and each story got better, fleshing out the characters and expanding the taboo. Maybe it was the modernization of the world in this new series starter; undoubtedly, the superheroes helped. I like this one better thus far.
I'd suggest Anya Merchant's Sin and Soil series for a slow(ish)-burn taboo adventure. I'd recommend this book (and the series, as Book 2 is about to come out and hopefully the audiobook shortly after that) for anyone who likes superheroes and an exploration of a young man's feelings about the important women in his life when he reconnects with them after an absence during his (and others') "coming-of-age". Anyone coming to this book/series from Sin and Soil will be happily delighted in the new adventure. Those looking for a great example of Anya Merchant and her storytelling need to try this book.

Historia
Back at the farmstead, Damon gets a chance to rest and recover from his recent adventures. With Vel teasing him more than ever, finding time to play outside of the range of Malon’s watchful gaze becomes a quest in itself. When Bylia arrives at the tower in search of a new muse, the farmstead’s lurid secrets are at risk of being thrust into the open by her songs. Damon does what he does best. He wines her, he dines her, and spirits her off on a trip away from his complicated home life.

Be Careful What You Wish For...

I enjoyed the book. The story moved out of the loop of Damon's insufferable "can't control myself" antics with the three women in his life when he gets a visit from Bylia and is pushed into taking her out for adventure [due to his insufferable "can't control myself" antics!]. They get more than they bargain for and, through it, she learns more about young Damon than he wanted. We find out where the Series title comes from and Damon finally begins to understand how his behavior can affect more than just himself when the secrets he barely tries to keep anymore threaten to spill into the open.
It's more of what readers began, expect, and long to continue. The action is good, the love is slow-burn, and the characters are finding themselves. Lana Lee is such a joy to listen to, you'll find yourself relistening to the books just to hear her read it.
Here's hoping Book 5 will come out soon!
