Historia
Award-winning journalist and CNN correspondent Elle Reeve was not surprised by the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. With years of in-depth research and on-the-ground investigative reporting under her belt, Reeve was aware of the preoccupations of the online far right and their journey from the computer to QAnon, militias, and racist groups. At the same time, Reeve saw a parallel growth of counterforces, with citizen vigilantes using new tools and tactics to take down the far right.

Fearless!
Revisado: 07-17-24
A fabulous presentation and read by the author. I look forward to listening to it again. The story was full of detail I knew to be true from my own experience with the early Internet and online encounters. Knowing those who fell into, and not always out of, the dark web was a topic few others I know have experienced. Elle Reeve completed a jigsaw puzzle for me.

Historia
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Historia
At the heart of Admiral James Stavridis’s training as a naval officer was the preparation to lead sailors in combat, to face the decisive moment in battle whenever it might arise. In To Risk it All, he offers up nine of the most useful and enthralling stories from the US Navy’s nearly 250-year history, and draws from them a set of insights that we can all put to use when confronted with fateful choices.

I found myself fully engaged with each of these stories. Wisdom is something which can be learned, practiced, and curated. Always a comfort to discover that those in positions of leadership think this way.

Historia
A new virus descended on the human species in 2019 wreaking unprecedented havoc. Nearly two years into the pandemic, the crucial mystery of the origin of SARS-CoV-2 is not only unresolved but has deepened. In this uniquely insightful book, a scientist and a writer join forces to try to get to the bottom of how a virus whose closest relations live in bats in subtropical southern China somehow managed to begin spreading among people more than 1,500 kilometers away in the city of Wuhan.

Accurate Telling leads to Inaccurate Understanfing
Revisado: 12-24-22
So much was left out and even more was distorted. All of the facts and raw data collected were accurate but just not complete. The Wuhan Lab was an invention and fully supported by a coalition of military Intelligence organizations. The scientists there, each and everyone, reported to their backers which included our CIA, Chinese Military Intelligence, Australia's Intelligence and many others. This effort was funded through WHO which paid for most of the Wuhan Lab's equipment and training. It is almost certain that the "intelligence handlers" met with each other to make sure no nation had a better handle on discoveries of dangerous pandemic level diseases than their counterparts. Trump slashed US funding, we were the largest single source of both funding and expertise, to Wuhan Lab's in 2017 and again in 2018. Trump wanted the nation leading the labs, the US, out entirely. Our CIA tried to insist that at least a few US friendly scientists remain.
Ridley documents that poor lab safety and dangerous experiments increased during the time of withdrawal of US oversight. Strangely, he does not link to or report this fact. This book is incomplete in order to be a source of propaganda for political positions.

Historia
“Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County, the fictional setting of many of John Grisham’s unforgettable stories. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. He’s called upon to help an old friend, Mack Stafford, a former lawyer in Clanton, who three years earlier became a local legend when he stole money from his clients, divorced his wife, filed for bankruptcy, and left his family in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again—until now. Now Mack is back, and he’s leaning on his old pals, Jake and Harry Rex, to help him return. His homecoming does not go as planned.

Historia
Benjamin Franklin is the founding father who winks at us - an ambitious urban entrepreneur who rose up the social ladder, from leather-aproned shopkeeper to dining with kings. In best-selling author Walter Isaacson's vivid and witty full-scale biography, we discover why Franklin turns to us from history's stage with eyes that twinkle from behind his new-fangled spectacles. In Benjamin Franklin, Isaacson shows how Franklin defines both his own time and ours. The most interesting thing that Franklin invented, and continually reinvented, was himself.

Gravitas of the Middle Class
Revisado: 03-30-22
Never has the middle of a society, the wide enclosure of our bell shaped breath of every measure been better understood. What a masterful duo, Franklin and Isaacson, in their dignity tour of the Middle Earth where we live. That the Constitution was stripped of higher authority than what was the wisdom of the middle, is gently crafted by the eraser of Benjamin Franklin. He removed the haughtiness of John Adams and the subject of slaves in quick succession. A powerfully guided lesson by a humble soul who was not, for a moment, ever ashamed. Walter Isaacson kept the dialogue rich and available for a powerfully read performance.

Historia
Acclaimed historian Heather Cox Richardson traces the shifting ideology of the Republican Party from the antebellum era to the Great Recession. While progressive Republicans like Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower revived Lincoln’s vision and expanded the government, their opponents appealed to Americans’ latent racism and xenophobia to regain political power, linking taxation and regulation to redistribution and socialism. In the modern era, the schism within the Republican Party has grown wider, pulling the GOP ever further from its founding principles.
