Historia
On July 10, 1943, the largest amphibious invasion ever mounted took place, larger even than the Normandy invasion 11 months later: 160,000 American, British, and Canadian troops came ashore or were parachuted onto Sicily, signaling the start of the campaign to defeat Nazi Germany on European soil. Operation HUSKY, as it was known, was enormously complex, involving dramatic battles on land, in the air, and at sea. Yet, despite its paramount importance to ultimate Allied victory, and its drama, very little has been written about the 38-day Battle for Sicily.

Great writing style, Love Al
Revisado: 04-18-23
I wish Al Murray could narrate all of James's books, he brings life to the history and stories with passion and knowledge as well as a keen understanding of humanity that you don't always get in ww2 history.
James Holland always seems to strike the right balance between telling a story and telling the history.

Revisado: 02-26-23
Last book in the original run of books, its probably 1 too many, the story is a bit formulaic at this point, the tau are written out after 3 chapters. Its overall a great performance, its a good book, maybe there will be more Caine in the future, the author has published one more book since this one. Maybe we get a proper tau teamup book at some point.

Historia
Paul Kennedy, award-winning author of The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers and one of today’s most renowned historians, now provides a new and unique look at how World War II was won. Engineers of Victory is a fascinating nuts-and-bolts account of the strategic factors that led to Allied victory. Kennedy reveals how the leaders’ grand strategy was carried out by the ordinary soldiers, scientists, engineers, and businessmen responsible for realizing their commanders’ visions of success.

Less of a Gadget book, more a top level strategy
Revisado: 07-14-22
The title implies it focuses on individual inventions but the actual narrative is focused on the problems planners of the war faced and what innovations were created to overcome those problems as well as small asides to the gadget when there was an interesting story or something important to the overall theme of middle management working in tandem with overall command

Volpone Glory covers the exploits of the soldiers of the 50th Volpone of the Royal Volpone Regiment. Their ranks are filled with proud and arrogant soldiers who come from the noble families of Volpone, earning them the name 'Bluebloods' among the Astra Militarum. Nick Kyme breathes life and humility into the members of this otherwise supercilious regiment as they battle against impossible odds.

Fine guard book for grimdark 40k
Revisado: 06-10-22
Its an OK book, the start isn't great as it rushes to introduce too many characters all at once jumping around too quickly, but once the book straightens things out the battle in the middle of the book is very rewarding. the rest of the book after that felt rushed and tried to kill off as many characters as possible as fast as possible, maybe emulating Dan Abnett's own style, but it leads to the ending coming too fast, and feeling completely hollow

Historia
New York Times best-selling author and Pulitzer Prize finalist Arthur Herman pens this fascinating look at how two businessmen turned the U.S. into a military powerhouse during World War II. In 1940, FDR asked General Motors CEO William Knudsen to oversee the production of guns, tanks, and planes needed for the war. Meanwhile, industrialist Henry J. Kaiser presided over the building of “Liberty ships” - vessels that came to symbolize America’s great wartime output.

A book so pro capitalist its accidentally marxist
Revisado: 05-26-22
the author goes out of his way to make the managerial class of the 20s, 30s, and 40s into the glorious heroes of the 2nd world war and while they played their part, and were well rewarded for it, this book is completely divorced from the harsh labor conditions present at the time, and outright blames labor for the responses management choose to take at several points. Ironically its the language of maximizing production and the reverence the author has for how many nuts and bolts are in a car, and how many man hours it takes to construct one, that's ripped straight from marx and his discussions on cotton mills. Overall there's more interesting nuanced books out there if you're interested in a history of production in the 2nd world war.
