Not what I expected or wanted, but still good.

Very useful and evidence-based

I love it!
My favorite part is that it’s not about emotions. And it’s not about opinions.
It’s very A to B:
- here’s the author’s story
- here’s some history of childbirth in the US
- here’s how it’s happening now
- here’s what might be better... and here’s WHY.
It’s very factual. I’m very natural-oriented but I still don’t like when people say that “all doctors are bad” or “all hospitals are evil” or “all natural things are unsafe.” I understand that a lot depends on your situation and health history. There are a lot of well-intended people in the hospitals, as well as out of hospitals. So I’m not a fan of pro- or anti-hospital trends.
But this book gives you data. Not emotions - data. Then it’s up to you.
Whatever type of birth you pick - home, a birth center, a hospital - this book is a must. You’ll have so much understanding and control over the process. Even if you don’t plan to have your baby at home or if it’s not allowed where you live or whatever - I still recommend this book. Yes, if you know you have to go to a hospital, you might freak out after reading it. But it’s better to freak out now, then chill and actually get ready and make that hospital birth as smooth and friendly as possible. It’s better than getting to the hospital when in labour and THEN freaking out.
I feel very empowered. Still listening to it. I actually bought a paper book first, but I have hardly any time to read. So I got an audio book to listen to it when driving. Money well spent.

Historia
In a world of unpredictable forces racing headlong toward an uncertain future, how can a single individual control his own fate? How can he safeguard the well-being of his family, the prosperity of his group and the security of his nation? Must he mutely await the next unforeseen blow, which might well signal the end of all dreams and aspirations? Or should he endeavor by whatever means, through whatever plan, to secure the future for those he cherishes and the society in which he lives?

Historia
It’s not easy living in someone else’s world. But that’s the story of Mike de Wolf’s life...literally. The whole thing started at his friend Horace’s Greenwich Village apartment. Horace is a writer and he’s decided to model one of his villains after Mike. Sounds crazy...until Mike reaches to turn on a light and gets the shock of his life. Knocked unconscious, Mike wakes up to find himself tossing in a violent ocean surf and getting slammed against the rocks.

It started like a fun story... just a fun story. And then, well, I didn’t expect the plot to go that direction and it was AMAZING.
The performance was great, too.
Starting the next audio book by L. Ron Hubbard in a moment. :)

It’s a 3D movie without video!
Revisado: 02-26-20
This production is AMAZING. Just - wow.
It was hard for me to start: English isn’t my native language and I don’t usually enjoy reading / listening to fiction books in English.
But this month I had to drive around a lot, so - what the heck, let’s just try.
Got through the first few chapters and...
Kept listening to it everywhere (thanks to AirPods). During lunch breaks at work, while cooking at home, played it on bathroom Sonos when taking shower...
Highly addictive )))
The story itself is unbelievable. It has several part and each one is enough for a separate book.
But the production - OMG. All these voices, music, sound effects. Wow. It’s like watching a 3D movie, or even being at the scene but not seeing a picture of it. Everything else is there. Sometimes I almost felt that I was about to smell or sense something...
Looking forward to more productions like this.
And yes, with this book my understanding of English improved greatly.

It fixed my accent!
Revisado: 01-23-19
I’ve been struggling with American pronunciation for a few years, since I moved to US. I’m Russian, but my accent was a crazy mixture of I-don’t-know-what. It didn’t sound like Russian but it didn’t sound like English either!
I’ve been listening to this book and practicing it while driving. Here are a few tips:
1) This book is for those who speaks English already; all the explanations are in English and the author uses tons of words in practice sentences
2) The practice words / sentences are pretty fast but you can always go 10 seconds back (instead of going back to the beginning of the chapter) and try again
3) I actually loved the fact that it’s so fast - in some other audio courses slow drills were so annoying!
4) I’m going to go though this book again and again just to practice
5) The major improvement for me was differentiating between sounds which are very similar to each other or which seemed similar to me just because in my language certain sounds simply don’t exist. That made duplication way easier.
6) I also figured how words may sound different depending on their position in the sentence and other factors.
7) After 1/2 of this book I started paying attention to all the sounds, not just to the one being practiced.
Overall, I can understand people way better now and they can understand me. It’s such a change and such a relief! A few years of “sorry? say it again? you mean blah?” - and now they just get it. Mostly. :)
I definitely recommend it. Don’t cut it short, just do all the drills even if you know some sounds perfectly. Just do it.
