Historia
London, 1953, Coronation year—but not the Coronation of Elizabeth II. Thirteen years have passed since a Grand Alliance between Great Britain and Germany was formalized. George VI and his family have been murdered, and Edward VIII rules as King. Yet, in practice, all power is vested in Alfred Rosenberg, Britain’s Protector. The role and status of women is Rosenberg’s particular interest. Rose Ransom belongs to the elite caste of women and works at the Ministry of Culture, rewriting literature to correct the views of the past. But now she has been given a special task.

So realistic!!
Revisado: 06-29-23
Great storyline and tied well to history. This could have easily happened had Edward not abdicated….scary.

Historia
Here is the inspiring story of how Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, alongside a team of researchers, parents, friends, and community leaders, discovered that the children of Flint, Michigan, were being exposed to lead in their tap water - and then battled her own government and a brutal backlash to expose that truth to the world. Paced like a scientific thriller, What the Eyes Don’t See reveals how misguided austerity policies, broken democracy, and callous bureaucratic indifference placed an entire city at risk.

I love that Dr Mona narrated the book. Powerful true story of the Flint Water Disaster and attempted coverup. May more people take action like Dr Mona.

Historia
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

Powerfully moving!!

An amazing story of love and dedication. My mom, her siblings, and mother suffered greatly at the hands of her father, a WW2 vet. This story helped me understand the many aspects of war which contributed to the change in him after he returned. I hope many families are able to heal through Dale’s efforts.

Historia
When Mary Lou Quinlan’s beloved mother, Mary Finlayson, dies, her family is bereft - until Mary Lou searches for her mother’s "God Box", her private cache of notes to God on behalf of family, friends, and strangers. To Mary Lou’s amazement, she finds not one but 10 boxes stuffed with hundreds of tiny petitions that span the last 20 years of her mother’s life.
Note by note, Mary Lou unearths a treasure of her mother’s wishes and worries and insight. Mary asked God for everything from the right flooring for her daughter’s home to a cure for her own blood cancer.

Would you listen to The God Box again? Why?
I would to get inspired again to use the God Box I created after reading it the first time.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The God Box?
When she would find notes her mom wrote on scraps of paper such as receipts. Helps us to remember that we can find any moment to focus on God.

Historia
It had been raining for weeks. Maybe months. He had forgotten the last day that it hadn't rained, when the storms gave way to the pale blue of the Gulf sky, when the birds flew and the clouds were white and sunshine glistened across the drenched land. Following years of catastrophic hurricanes, the Gulf Coast - stretching from the Florida panhandle to the western Louisiana border - has been brought to its knees. The region is so punished and depleted that the government has drawn a new boundary ninety miles north of the coastline.

Proud of this Mississippi author
Revisado: 08-05-14
What made the experience of listening to Rivers the most enjoyable?
I LOVED having Michael Ferris Smith read his own book. I believe it added to the experience.
What did you like best about this story?
I was never quite sure what was around the next bend and he kept me guessing. Didn't see the end coming at all.
What about Michael Farris Smith’s performance did you like?
He has a magnificiently smooth Southern voice which truly drew you into the book. You almost felt like it was Cohen telling you about his experience. Marvelous!
