Loved the history of the Kern’s World
Revisado: 05-16-23
I really enjoy this story. While I found the parts on the ship to be significantly less entertaining, the parts that discuss the evolution of Kern’s World are wonderful and more than make up for it.

Different from the others but still satisfying.
Revisado: 05-11-23
I thought it was a nice addition to the series. It’s interesting to see how entire universes are constructed then destroyed and then reconstructed mentally as you move through the story trying to understand what all is happening. Asking yourself all the metaphysical questions and then asking if you knew, would it matter? Different style and pacing compared to the other two books, but still refreshing nonetheless. I especially appreciated Dr Kern being developed more in this story. Hopefully more is written about the ending.

He must be protected at all costs lol. He really does make the story come alive. I’ve actually noticed that using his voices in my head when reading books that sadly have no audio version. Also, the bloopers at the end were golden.

After saving the world many times, the Merry Band of Pirates have accepted the inevitable: Earth is doomed. All they can do is try to bring a few thousand people to safety, before vicious aliens arrive to destroy humanity's home world. No. There is one other thing they can do: hit the enemy so hard that the aliens will regret they ever heard of humans.

Spoiler: “gays”=“dysfunctional citizens”
Revisado: 10-20-18
Within the first few minutes of the audiobook the author makes it a point to say there were no “dysfunctional citizens” listing “...cutters, anorexics, gays, addicts...”. I’d love to hear an explanation as to why being gay is a dysfunction in a society where the military elites don’t procreate and have sex only as a method to train so as not to have a weakness, and where the children and parents don’t know each other. Without the “zealots” there’s no issue in being gay, especially when procreation is artificial and the family unit is no more. Scientifically speaking there is no distinction between sexual orientations in terms of merit and ability, so the idea that sexuality would even be an issue in such a universe is illogical.

The story is good but makes too many assumptions
Revisado: 10-14-18
The entire story is good and well fleshed out. However, one thing that continuously bothers me is how Star Force insists on patterning everything after themselves. Individuality isn’t superior to collectivism- it only has different strengths. By erasing a culture completely, you negate these strengths. Star Force uses their social and technological prowess as proof of the superiority of their methods, but in reality humanity is still flawed and corrupt. They haven’t sought to “fix” their own race with the same fervor and totality as they have with alien races (essentially keeping the originals imprisoned and letting them die out while only investing in the genetic samples they grow and raise). Technological prowess is nearly nonexistent as they are pretty much only reverse engineering the pyramid database, while races like the Bsidd were technologically superior in their own merit- which should reinforce that there is strength in other systems of doing things that they shouldn’t erase or ignore. These traits are mirrored in our own cultures, East Asian cultures for example are extremely collectivistic and it’s something that gives them particular strengths and benefits. Instead of looking to pattern every race after Star Force, they should incorporate the inherent strengths of those races’ existing structures or run into issues of individuals being “lost” in terms of direction like the “Free Bsidd” or the lethargy of the Lacvamat. The proof in concept is the Hycre and Protovic (and to some extent the Voku).

Good story, painful narration
Revisado: 10-09-18
I like how the story filled in extras and took care of some loose ends. However the narrator was terrible- actual reading was painful to listen to. Examples:
Rendezvous= “Ren-de-zev-us”
Anti-grav= “Anti-grey”
Quadruped= “Quadrooped”
Biped= “Bi-p’d”
There are plenty more examples but you get the idea. Also there are many times when he misread or paused and started again but both sound clips were present (mistake and all). It’s really a shame because he nailed the tones of the characters.

Historia
The discovery of an ancient alien pyramid buried under the ice in Antarctica changes Earth forever. We learn that we are the forgotten slaves of a galaxy spanning empire called the V'kit'no'sat who abandoned our planet 100,000 years ago during a massive rebellion. Our ancestors, the Zen'zat, were given special genetic powers and ordered never to reproduce under pain of death...for themselves and their offspring. That means Earth's entire population is illegal and if the V'kit'no'sat return to reclaim their lost border colony they'll wipe out every last one of us.

Awesome story but the narration needs work.
Revisado: 05-22-18
I made it through the entire story but not to say that it wasn’t painful. I’m going to write the rest of this review in the same style.
Basically. The. Narrator. Was reading. Nearly. Word for word. With unnecessarily. Long. And awkward. Pauses. But. No. True. Stops. As if. The entire story. Were a single. Run on sentence. Sometimes. She would. Be alright for a stretch. But then. Stop. In the middle of a word. Like. “Work. Force.” Her pronunciation. Needs some work. Too. I understand. That. No. One. Will know every word. But. I’d hope there. Would be some editing. And proofing. Of the work. Before. It was. Released. Lastly. She needs to stop rage. Clicking and. Slamming. Her mouse. In the last. Few. Chapters. You could. Hear it. Every few minutes.
