Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

5 Star
Revisado: 04-22-23
Jeanette does a very good job of painting the full, unbiased, picture of her life for the reader. We are led to make our own decisions during the first 3/4ths of the book. Only then does Jeanette weigh in on her perspective after much much therapy. My only warning to future listeners, she goes into quite a bit of detail related to her eating disorder. Towards the end, it was almost too much, but I still would recommend this book. You can always fast forward through those parts.

Historia
From her many well-loved novels, Hilma Wolitzer - now 91 years old and at the top of her game - has gained a reputation as one of our best fiction writers. These collected short stories - most of them originally published in magazines including Esquire and the Saturday Evening Post in the 1960s and 1970s, along with a new story that brings her early characters into the present - are evocative of an era that still resonates deeply today.

Thoroughly Enjoyed!
Revisado: 10-29-21
Each chapter is a separate story about the life of seemingly different women. I love that many of the chapters are from the 60s and 70s. Thought provoking… sometimes sad, sometimes humorous. This book isn’t for everyone but I really enjoyed it!

Historia
Rainn Wilson’s memoir about growing up geeky and finally finding his place in comedy, faith, and life. For nine seasons Rainn Wilson played Dwight Schrute, everyone's favorite work nemesis and beet farmer. Viewers of The Office fell in love with the character and grew to love the actor who played him even more. Rainn founded a website and media company, SoulPancake, that eventually became a best-selling book of the same name. He also started a hilarious Twitter feed (sample tweet: “I'm not on Facebook” is the new “I don't even own a TV”).

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. There were a few chapters that I couldn’t connect with just because we have different tastes in music etc. but I’m glad I continued listening. I enjoyed Rainn’s perspective on spirituality and life in general. Bonus: Rainn Narrates!

This is one of those books that will stay with me for a long time. I appreciate Megan's honesty and authenticity. It must have taken an enormous amount of courage to make such a life-changing decision to leave the church and her family, and even more courage to write about it.
Not only was this book interesting but it was also very informative. I'm not a religious person but I appreciate learning about Megan's religious upbringing and how certain Bible passages informed her life.
I appreciate Megan's commitment to making this world a better place to live in. I am absolutely in awe...

Enjoyable!
Revisado: 10-13-19
What a delightful book!
From the start, I found myself looking ahead to see how much of the book was left, I didn't want it to end!
Amy shared her feelings and thoughts about her life and experiences.
There was so much variety in the audible version. Amy narrated most of the book while a handful of well-known performers chimed-in unexpectedly. This book is one part Amy's life, one part Amys advice for living...which I enjoyed immensely. Amy is honest and forthright about her journey.

From one of Outside magazine's "Literary All-Stars" comes the thrilling true tale of the fastest boat ride ever, down the entire length of the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, during the legendary flood of 1983. In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 09-16-19
As others have already written, this book is being marketed as an exciting, epic journey. That is not my experience as a reader.
It is well written but in the way that an academic textbook is well written. this is not for the casual reader.

Good Read!
Revisado: 09-07-19
Pro's:
Overall I really liked this book!
I enjoyed the storyline, historical aspect and the variety of characters. I really enjoyed the words of wisdom and advice for living, passed on from one character to another.
Con's:
Too much tragedy! The ratio of -good vs bad- happening to the main character were out of balance especially toward the end of the book, it was exhausting.
I understand bad things happened in history but when I am reading for entertainment I think a nice balance between the two makes for better reading.
Audio:
The narration of the main character was excellent. The various voices of the other characters were sometimes distracting (ex: "Peanut" and "Auntie doo").

Good detail, well-balanced. Author seemed to be as objective as possible. I am so happy for her, that she found the strength to leave and not only survive, but thrive.
Narration was so-so otherwise 5 stars.
