Historia
As hundreds of rescue workers waited on the ground, United Airlines Flight 232 wallowed drunkenly over the bluffs northwest of Sioux City. The plane slammed onto the runway and burst into a vast fireball. The rescuers didn't move at first: nobody could possibly survive that crash. And then people began emerging from the summer corn that lined the runways. Miraculously, 184 of 296 passengers lived. No one has ever attempted the complete reconstruction of a crash of this magnitude.

In depth look into Flight 232
Revisado: 04-23-25
I was not born when this happened, but I do remember the history channel or discovery/natgeo special on the flight, and it all started coming back to me. This is a very detailed look into the disaster, and how the investigation evolved and survivors recovered from the crash.

Historia
Panama, 1989. The once warm relationship between United States and Gen. Manuel Noriega has eroded dangerously. Newly elected President George Bush has declared the strongman a drug trafficker and a rigger of elections. Intimidation on the streets is a daily reality for U.S. personnel and their families. The nation is a powder keg. Naval Investigative Service (NIS) Special Agent Rick Yell has worked the job in Panama since 1986, and lives there with his wife Annya and infant child. Like most NIS agents, he’s a civilian with no military rank with a specialty in working criminal cases.

Great detail to what went down in Panama
Revisado: 03-03-25
For a conflict that does not get much of the limelight, this novel does a great job of giving us full detail of the operation that occurred in Panama.

I was surprised at how detailed this account was. Mr. Keel did a fantastic job describing the full situation of the happenings around Point Pleasant and the rest of the world. Definitely strange things out there that we cannot comprehend.

Once again asking to replace Rebecca Soler; push through the first third of the book, it gets better
Revisado: 01-27-25
Still can’t believe Rebecca Soler still has a job as a narrator. More Teddy please! This book was better than iron flame, still struggled to get through the first third of this novel, but it got better. I’ll give RY credit because I feel like a lot of people were nervous for this novel after the last one.

Backing up her father’s claims, but not much else
Revisado: 01-06-25
After listening to Woody’s account, I had to listen to his daughter’s afterward. Right away I was disappointed with the length of the account. 1 hour long for beings that have been involved for most of your life. Yes, her main goal was to back her father’s claims and throw in some of her own memories, but the details are lacking. I found her account interesting, and again, I am not doubting they have met Indrid and Co. I find in frustrating that their accounts are so short, like a middle schooler writing down their stories. Yes, her memory will be poor for her younger years and not being able to tell us specific details or process things like adults do. One thing I found interesting is the photographic proof of Indrid and his family and friends. That would be something they should add (if possible) in future copies.

Historia
Woodrow Derenberger, the author of the book, claimed to have had a series of strange adventures beginning on November 2nd, 1966. While driving home from Parkersburg, West Virginia, to his suburban home in Mineral Wells, he suddenly found the highway blocked by a large gray object. Someone emerged from the object and walked to the passenger side window of his car. The man introduced himself as "a searcher", and offered words of comfort to Derenberger.

The original Indrid Cold story…ok but not great
Revisado: 01-05-25
I have been interested in Indrid Cold since the release of Mothman Prophecies. It wasn’t until my college years that I stumbled upon the real story. It was another decade after listening to a podcast, that I came across this book. There are definitely parts of this story that sound credible, but then others sound phony. Like Christianity on other planets? Really? They follow the same religion where these events didn’t even occur? Or did they have the exact same biblical experiences as us? And life on Venus and Saturn? Impossible. Either these aliens are making up stuff as they went along or were controlling the narrative for a simple man like Woody could comprehend what he is seeing. Also these experiences lack a lot of detail, seems to be written by an elementary school level writer. “I met Indrid. We did this. It was fun. Then we went home.” I am not saying these events didn’t take place, but it’s really hard to believe everything that occurred.

Historia
On August 5, 1942, giant pillars of dust rose over the Russian steppe, marking the advance of the 6th Army, an elite German combat unit dispatched by Hitler to capture the industrial city of Stalingrad and press on to the oil fields of Azerbaijan. The Germans were supremely confident; in three years, they had not suffered a single defeat. The Luftwaffe had already bombed the city into ruins. German soldiers hoped to complete their mission and be home in time for Christmas.

Historia
In Tinder Box, Tony Hatch, former CBS reporter and Emmy Award winner, tells the Iroquois story as it has never been told before. In a rush to open the theater on time, corners were cut, and the Iroquois lacked the most basic fire-fighting equipment: sprinklers, fire alarm boxes, backstage telephone, exit signs, and functioning asbestos curtain. Some exits, for aesthetic reasons, were hidden behind heavy draperies, doors opened inward, and exterior fire escapes were unfinished.

Revisado: 12-30-24
This book was a lot more detailed than expected, the author was able to pull a lot of eye witness accounts from this terrible tragedy. He also brings up a good point, are our theaters even much safer now than a century ago.

Historia
His name wasn’t Chester Nez. That was the English name he was assigned in kindergarten. And in boarding school at Fort Defiance, he was punished for speaking his native language, as the teachers sought to rid him of his culture and traditions. But discrimination didn’t stop Chester from answering the call to defend his country after Pearl Harbor, for the Navajo have always been warriors, and his upbringing on a New Mexico reservation gave him the strength to excel as a marine. This is the first and only memoir by one of the original Navajo code talkers of WWII.

This story was fantastic. I love the mix of war stories and the author’s experience on the reservation before and after the war. A great story for anyone who loves Native American culture and war memoirs. Thanks for your service, Chester!
