Historia
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, overwhelmed. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick's brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian.

Beautiful story
Revisado: 10-04-22
Loved the story and the performance. Was engaged in the book the whole time I listened.
I do wish the performance included the dog's name being pronounced "Mar-Lay-nah," since that's how her namesake, Marlene Dietrich, pronounced her name. But the entire story was emotional and I found myself laughing at times, crying at other times, and enjoying myself the entire time.

The darkness, the shadows, the ghosts, are closing in — and Joseph and his lover, Kevin, are being stalked by a merciless demon, hell-bent on possession.

Listened to this while at the gym and on a car trip and it got me thinking a lot about things like why gay sex still embarrasses me and the gifts that gay ppl bring to the Church...and how loving oneself is hard but worth it as an LGBTQ person. Not for prepubescent audiences but a wonderful story of love and faith.

Changing Our Mind has helped thousands of families and congregations carefully and compassionately rethink traditional religious teachings about full LGBTQ inclusion. With growing scientific evidence, our wider society has taken big steps, but too many religious families and communities have not kept up. Dr. David Gushee offers a powerful, inspiring message of hope and healing by helping Christians to return to Bible study, prayer, and reflection in a way that creates a vision for a more inclusive church.

Excellent book
Revisado: 05-28-22
Dr Gushee has given me much to think about. As a gay man who has inhabited conservative Protestant spaces, I am reflecting on my life and beliefs and this book has helped me ask questions and even find some answers that I either agree with or reject.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Historia
Evelyn Waugh's most celebrated work is a memory drama about the intense entanglement of the narrator, Charles Ryder, with a great Anglo-Catholic family. Written during World War II, the story mourns the passing of the aristocratic world Waugh knew in his youth and vividly recalls the sensuous pleasures denied him by wartime austerities; in so doing it also provides a profound study of the conflict between the demands of religion and the desires of the flesh.

It still takes a major effort of historical imagination to enter the minds of those who lived during the Reformation Era; who were willing to suffer martyrdom or martyr others for what we would regard as minor doctrinal differences. These 36 lectures are designed to take you inside the minds of those who supported the Reformation and those who resisted it.

To watch any opera lover listen to a favorite work, eyes clenched tight in concentration and passion, often betraying a tear, is to be almost envious. What must it be like, you might think, to love a piece of music so much? And now one of music's most gifted teachers is offering you the opportunity to answer that very question, in a spellbinding series of 32 lectures that will introduce you to the transcendentally beautiful performing art that has enthralled audiences for more than 400 years.

The Fat Lady Has Sung
Revisado: 07-08-15
Would you listen to How to Listen to and Understand Opera again? Why?
I would. It's a wonderful introduction to a high art form which is accessible even to those who are not musically trained. Even with a Bachelor's degree in music, I found Prof. Greenberg's insights to be fresh, compelling, and enjoyable.
Any additional comments?
For me to want to listen again to almost 24 hours of lecture material, it has to be excellent. This is. Buy it, listen to it, and then check out the operas he discusses. You won't be sorry.
