Historia
Mrs Abbott is flustered at the thought of putting up a lady from the Red Cross, but is happily surprised when she turns out to be an old friend from her previous life as Miss Buncle, infamous writer. Of course, she’s now far too busy with her children to write, not to mention helping out in the lives of the villagers. And with a possible spy in their midst, evacuated families, potential love matches and a visit from a famous writer, she’s got her work cut out for her.

Less plot than the first two
Revisado: 03-31-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. This book is my least favorite of the three just because it was almost a collection of short stories without much of a common thread between them. I would almost go so far as to say that the two Mrs. Abbotts are only secondary characters in this book, which focuses more on the people around them. It was certainly entertaining and I’m glad I listened to it, but the first two are higher up on my list.

Viva Durant, New Orleans’ youngest detective, is on a quest to solve a jazzy mystery. Every summer, Viva heads to New Orleans to spend time with her loving but stern Grandmother, known as Gram. After Gram reads Viva an article in the local paper about a missing treasure related to the world-famous song, “Miss Mary Mack”, Viva heads through the Crescent City on an epic adventure to track down the treasure. The clues lead Viva to the French Quarter, a jazz club, a creepy cemetery, and even the circus.

Excellent story - a few cautions
Revisado: 03-05-20
This story was very fun and my 6- and 8-year old boys loved it, as well as I myself. There were a few lines that I could've done without - "oh my god" was used a few times and "d***it" as well. We listened as a family so we were able to discuss why those phrases aren't appropriate, but I would have preferred the story be written without them. The 14-year old also sneaks around behind her grandmother's back and tells some lies in the process of solving the mystery, but again I took it as an opportunity for discussion. For these reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, but we would listen again if the author published another book - the kids have already asked and were disappointed when I said there are no more Viva stories. The performance was well-done and was a fun accompaniment to a unit on jazz music we had recently done. It's not an "educational" book, but made mention of a few things we had learned so that was neat.

Great story, some caveats
Revisado: 11-18-19
My boys (ages 8 and 6) and I loved this story! However, I can’t recommend it unequivocally because some of the language I didn’t feel comfortable with. “Stupid” is used in excess, and d*** and the Lord’s name in vain were also used 1-2 times each. It could be worse, for sure, but had I known that before starting we would have selected something else, as there are countless novels that align more with the speech we want to encourage in our family.
