Historia
All Beth has to do is drive her son to his soccer game, watch him play, and then return home. Just because she knows her ex-best friend lives near the field, that doesn’t mean she has to drive past her house and try to catch a glimpse of her. Why would Beth do that and risk dredging up painful memories? She hasn’t seen Flora for 12 years. She doesn’t want to see her today - or ever again. But she can’t resist. She parks outside the open gates of Newnham House, watches from across the road as Flora arrives, and calls to her children Thomas and Emily to get out of the car.

Annoying, unrealistic characters and a silly plot. I’m not sure why I even bothered to finish it.

Historia
Despite the dismal Broadway season, Gunplay continues to draw crowds. A gangland spectacle, it's packed to the gills with action, explosions, and gunfire. In fact, Gunplay is so loud that no one notices the killing of Monte Field. In a sold-out theater, Field is found dead partway through the second act, surrounded by empty seats. The police hold the crowd and call for the one man who can untangle this daring murder: Inspector Richard Queen.

Foolish characters

New information plopped down at times that made figuring out the mystery logically impossible. Silly plot and dislikable, extremely dumb characters

Historia
Scotland Yard Detective Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and his wife, Detective Inspector Gemma James, have been invited for a relaxing weekend in the tranquil Cotswolds, one of Britain’s most beautiful and historic regions. A centerpiece of this glorious fall getaway is a posh charity luncheon catered by up-and-coming chef Viv Holland. But a tragic car accident followed by a series of mysterious deaths could ruin her ascent. Each piece of information that surfaces makes it clear that the killer had a connection with Viv’s pub - and perhaps with Beck House itself.

Stock characters, no suspense, obvious ending. As one character said—we came out all right (except for the people who were killed).

Divorced in Scotland and widowed in France, he has an estranged Scottish daughter and a French daughter he has raised by himself. Neither a mystery nor a thriller
Revisado: 04-27-21
There were no surprises in this rather tedious and overlong book. The hero (?) was usually the last to realize what was going on and managed to arrive just late enough not to avoid calamities. The characters were not well drawn and were predictable cliches.
It must hard to narrate such a story, but he wasn’t bad. Not a book for me!

Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

A nice story
Revisado: 02-27-21
The performance was disappointing. I understand why making the characters annoying if not despicable through most of the book was done, but a less whiny, more realistic voice would have enhanced the performance by making it more subtle.

Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

Never again
Revisado: 01-09-20
This was the worst narration I’ve listened to, and I should have returned it. It wasn’t Lee Child’s best, but it could have been fun with a better reader. The way the women were voiced made me wonder if he hates females, and the ending was telegraphed by the way it was presented. I enjoy Jack Reacher, but not with this narrator.

Revisado: 03-31-19
The reader was wonderful, but the story was inane. The main character is a CIA assassin and torturer, who tortures and kills Arab and Stasi bad guys. The characters are cardboard, and the plot is silly and predictable. I like some tough guys (such as Reacher), but this protagonist has neither humor nor humanity. What a waste of a great narrator.

Historia
Carl Mørck used to be one of Denmark’s best homicide detectives. Then a hail of bullets destroyed the lives of two fellow cops, and Carl - who didn’t draw his weapon - blames himself. So a promotion is the last thing he expects. But Department Q is a department of one, and Carl’s got only a stack of cold cases for company. His colleagues snicker, but Carl may have the last laugh, because one file keeps nagging at him: A liberal politician vanished five years earlier and is presumed dead. But she isn’t dead...yet.

Strange accents
Revisado: 09-10-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Have the narrator drop the phony accents. I found it distracting and annoying.
Would you be willing to try another book from Jussi Adler-Olsen? Why or why not?
Maybe. It would depend on the narration. I would never listen to one that was directed and narrated like this one.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Erik Davies?
I'm tempted to say anyone, but Mr. Davies probably had poor direction. When he spoke without the accents, it was fine.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
probably not

Dave is in a recovery unit in New Orleans, where a Creole girl named Tee Jolie Melton visits him and leaves him an iPod with the country blues song “Creole Belle” on it. Then she disappears. Dave becomes obsessed with the song and the memory of Tee Jolie and goes in search of her sister, who later turns up inside a block of ice floating in the Gulf.

Would you consider the audio edition of Creole Belle to be better than the print version?
Yes, because the narrator is so good.
What other book might you compare Creole Belle to and why?
The other James Lee Burke novels. They all are so evocative of the place.
