Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Loved it from start to finish
Revisado: 12-26-20
I loved the premise behind this book and it really got me thinking about my own life. I could completely relate to Nora, and I don't feel that connection to many main characters.
I've read some reviews that complained of a slow start to the book, but I didn't feel that way at all. It gripped me from the beginning and I'm very hard to please. I give up easily on books if I'm not hooked 20 minutes into it, but that was not a problem with this one.
There was a bit of foul language throughout it, which I could have done without, but it's not constant.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

A snoozer
Revisado: 12-11-19
This is my third taste of Ms Pratchett's writing. I guess I keep thinking that one will finally be good, but I officially give up. If someone asked me what this book was about, I have no idea what I'd say. There isn't one thing that happened of any significance during the entire nine hours that I endured this story. The best I can say is that it made a good bedtime listen as it put me right to sleep.
Tom Hank's narration saved the book for me. I could listen to him read a phone book...and in some ways, it feels as if I just did.
If you are new to Ann Pratchett's writing, prepare yourself. She skips around in time a lot, sometimes from paragraph to paragraph with no cues. You gotta just figure it out. There's very little plot in her books, especially this one. Her writing is like a stroll through a garden. You wander around in it aimlessly for a while but never really get anywhere. Finally, when you've seen everything, you realize you can't get out and so you just stand there for a while looking at things you've already seen.
Just not my style. I'll be moving on now.

Not my favorite, but still good
Revisado: 05-28-19
of all of Jeff Wheeler's books that I've listened to so far, and of all the Muirwood Books, this one is probably at the bottom of my list of favorites. It fell flat to me without enough conflict or action. I particularly felt that the relationship between Mya and Collier (sorry if I spelled their names wrong, but this is an AUDIO book so I didn't see the names written) was very boring. Nothing HAPPENS! It was very frustrating. Yes, they finally proclaim their love eventually, but they can't kiss so it's kinda.....meh. I love a good love story and this one was a good attempt, but I wouldn't rate it higher than that. I have yet to listen to the third book in the series so perhaps it will get better. I enjoyed the love story between Lia and Colvin much more in the previous Muirwood series. Still, it's a decent listen, especially if you enjoyed Jeff Wheeler's other books.

Lacking Depth
Revisado: 04-29-19
I've listened to quite a few books about dying teen love stories, and this one was pretty mediocre. The characters are one-dimentional and are basically the same people at the end of the story as they were at the beginning. I wasn't moved at all by the love story which was greatly lacking in build-up. She's been in love with the boy for her whole life then suddenly there he is and immediately there's a connection and then two days later they're a "thing" and....that's basically it. She can't go out in the sun...so what? They just hang out all night. There's a girl who doesn't like her...doesnt matter cause they never see her again He finds out about her disease...so what? He's perfect so he doesn't care and loves her anyway. She stays out too late...well now she's going to die. The end.
Not the most thought-provoking story.
Narration was good. Every female sounds the same. Every male sounds the same. But her narration was easy to listen to.

After all, she’s a modern woman - she’ll take her chances on the algorithms of online dating to find her ideal man. Before long, she meets a man who might just be the one - he’s hilarious, quick-witted, and full of heart. And when she meets up with Cameron in real life, he certainly looks exactly like his profile picture...but something’s not quite right.

My kids enjoyed this one more than I did. The plot got a little weird at the end. Narrator was fine, but overall, it was a bit boring and I couldn't really get into it. But it was free...so. I wish Audible would up their quality with their originals. I've yet to listen to one that I truly enjoyed.

I've always loved this book and this audio was absolutely a joy to listen to! The narrator reads with such conviction and feeling that it felt truly as if Miss Jane Eyre herself we're telling me her own story. I'll be listening to this one again and again
