Historia
London 1815. Newly widowed Lily Adler is returning to a society that frowns on independent women. At a ball thrown by her oldest friend, Lady Walter, she expects the scandal, gossip, and secrets. What she doesn't expect is the dead body in Lady Walter's garden. Lily overheard the man just minutes before he was shot: young, desperate, and attempting blackmail. But she's willing to leave the matter to the local constables - until Lord Walter bribes the investigating magistrate to drop the case. Stunned, Lily realizes she's the only one with the key to catching the killer.

Up and down
Revisado: 02-25-25
I found this book to jump around a lot. I had to really pay attention to where we were and in what time frame. I don’t like books where I have to pay that close attention. Also character development was lacking.

Historia
Florence, the 1550s. Lucrezia, third daughter of the grand duke, is comfortable with her obscure place in the palazzo: free to wonder at its treasures, observe its clandestine workings, and to devote herself to her own artistic pursuits. But when her older sister dies on the eve of her wedding, Lucrezia is thrust into the limelight: the duke is quick to request her hand in marriage, and her father just as quick to accept on her behalf. Having barely left girlhood behind, Lucrezia must make her way in a court whose customs are opaque and where her arrival is not universally welcomed.

Good not Great
Revisado: 02-17-25
There were parts of the story that got very confusing. Lots of back and forth from different times in her life.
Lots of additional questions like when did the artist tell her to meet in the woods. Was that when she went or did she meet with him again later after he escorted her maid? Things get a bit murky. I would have liked more clarity.

Revisado: 12-31-24
So happy I stumbled upon this series. It was an easy listen and for the most part very light hearted. Great characters and character development. The last book ties it all together. Try it out. You’ll thank me later.

Great story of Drew Layton
Revisado: 10-06-24
I like the mix of fiction and non fiction. Taking some liberties but not a lot and only when necessary.
Just a little put off by the narrator’s French American accents but not to bad.
A little slow toward the end and felt a force feeling of ending the book.
Otherwise a good read.

Sad story line

Very hard to follow with a horrible ending. Narrator was ok but the story was choppy and the names all ran into each other.

Historia
The year is 1348. Thomas, a disgraced knight, has found a young girl alone in a dead Norman village. An orphan of the Black Death, and an almost unnerving picture of innocence, she tells Thomas that plague is only part of a larger cataclysm - that the fallen angels under Lucifer are rising in a second war on heaven, and that the world of men has fallen behind the lines of conflict. Is it delirium or is it faith? She believes she has seen the angels of God. She believes the righteous dead speak to her in dreams. And now she has convinced the faithless Thomas to shepherd her across a depraved landscape to Avignon.

A bit hard to follow
Revisado: 09-13-24
First of all I want to say that the narrator was excellent! He was what kept my interest in this book.
There were times when it was a bit hard to follow. The flashbacks were somewhat distracting and took me awhile to figure them out.
In the end the story came together however i probably lost a lot of details in the middle especially about the priests brother.
All in all it was a good book. I would recommend if you like this genre.

Some good but long
Revisado: 09-03-24
So there are some aspects of this book in which I really enjoyed.
The narrator was excellent. Her accent was great and at times I had to listen intently to what she was saying in English.
It had some very good expletives. Nice phrasing and adjectives. It seemed to flow well.
I think the book was too long. Lots of dead space. Probably could have been completed in half the time. I understand wanting detail but there seemed to be a lot of dead space. I like long books but this one seemed unnecessary.
I admire the tenacity of people who have gone through this horrible time. Their endurance is well noted.
I wish I liked it more. I just didn’t.
