Pretty okay fantasy, not amazing but not bad.
Revisado: 02-05-24
This series has some interesting moments but overall it's nothing particular special. Standard young adult fantasy with a decent, but generally weak story. I wouldn't listen again.

Adequate but rushed conclusion
Revisado: 09-10-23
This wrapped up most of the plot lines but really rushed things to get there. A lot of stuff happened between chapter breaks and then rather than reading about it we read about the aftermath. Could have been twice as long with a lot better pacing.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Enjoyed premise and story, writing struggled
Revisado: 09-08-23
Great concept and pretty decent story. I also enjoyed the codas, they added a nice sense of conclusion a lot of stories lack.
I like Wil Wheaton as a narrator but he doesn't really try to do female voices and it can be hard to tell his characters apart.
My biggest complaint would be the overuse of "... said" when multiple characters are talking. This was particularly notable in the beginning when two characters were exchanging short sentences back and forth and each line started with "... said".
