Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Frank Herbert's language is lyrical. I'm not certain why they used multiple readers or opted for a British tone.

The story that began with Duke Leto Atreides's rise to power, then continued with the consequences of Lady Jessica’s betrayal, will now conclude with Paul becoming the leader that he needs to be on the way to his pivotal role as Muad’Dib.

I enjoyed the world expansion and how characters gained depth.
Revisado: 02-02-24
I don't understand why the authors repeat earlier points. It's as though they think readers start the book at random points and didn't know something covered 20 pages earlier. Perhaps it's for readers with dementia?

I enjoyed the story. It read as a nice short story, but why abridged? I guess the characters will appear in later books. On to number three!

Enjoying it so far. There's a little bit of Orphan X. A little bit of Rhythm Section. Some John Rain. Some Jack Reacher. Some Jason Bourne. Some Gray Man.

Historia
A compelling novel of desire, secrecy, and sexual identity, In One Person is a story of unfulfilled love—tormented, funny, and affecting—and an impassioned embrace of our sexual differences. Billy, the bisexual narrator and main character of In One Person, tells the tragicomic story (lasting more than half a century) of his life as a “sexual suspect,” a phrase first used by John Irving in 1978 in his landmark novel of “terminal cases,” The World According to Garp.

A good book done well
Revisado: 02-25-23
I enjoyed the book. I see reviews saying it is too long (needs editing) and repeats themes (he hasn't been original since Owen Meany.) They aren't grasping that this is a new story using familiar tools. Yes, there is wrestling. Bill is not a wrestler.
Irving is on a mission to make different stories using tools he wields as a master.
I enjoyed it. I know the characters. I was reminded of the AIDs epidemic and he painted personal tragedy. //Cheers

Historia
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Historia
Likened to the works of Faulkner and Dickens when it was first published 20 years ago, this extraordinarily accomplished debut novel is a brilliantly plotted story of forbidden love and piercing political drama, centered on the tragic decline of an Indian family in the state of Kerala, on the southernmost tip of India. Armed only with the invincible innocence of children, the twins Rahel and Esthappen fashion a childhood for themselves in the shade of the wreck that is their family.

A beautiful and terrible story wonderfully written
Revisado: 02-15-22
I purchased the book when it was first published. I heard that Roy was an excellent writer. I never got around to reading it. It is a bit complex for an audiobook. Mathan read perfectly.
I read as I listened. I recommend it.
Here is a treat from the end:
"He folder his fear into a perfect rose. He held it out in the palm of his hand. She took it from him and put it in her hair."
The entire book is poetry.

Historia
“This isn't strictly speaking an instructional manual, but a work of comedic philosophy.” Elvis Costello - songwriter, singer, author, and Fender Jazzmaster known to his admirers as “The Little Hands of Concrete” - spins his tale with wit, grit, and spit to spare. How to Play the Guitar and Y, Costello’s new entry into Audible’s Words + Music series, combines recitation, impersonation, and musical illustration to show you how to turn a three-chord trick into a four-chord caper and let your curiosity take you where it will.

Historia
Reacher goes where he wants, when he wants. That morning he was heading west, walking under the merciless desert sun — until he comes upon a curious scene. A Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. A woman is slumped over the wheel. Dead? No, nothing is what it seems. The woman is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent trying to find her twin brother, who might be mixed up with some dangerous people. Most of them would rather die than betray their terrifying leader.

Revisado: 11-12-21
I'm not certain why there are so many negative reviews. The language is good. The story telling is evocative. The ending was kind of simple. But, most of the complainers didn't get that far. I guess that they don't like Scott Brick.
