Fascinating Ibfirmation
Revisado: 06-11-24
I liked learning about this connection sand the worlds of the players. I’m a long way from all of them so they were all new to me. I like that it was read by the author, and I like Frank, who I see often in MSNBC. I’d like to stay apprised to learn if one day far into the future, there is less killing by long haul truckers thanks to efforts by law enforcement to put an end to it

Historia
The evening of April 12, 1979, was clear and warm. Unaware of the danger lurking on the periphery of the French Quarter, Drs. Ronald Banks and John Hakola made a tragic decision - to walk the few blocks from the historic district to the Hyatt Regency. Inches from the safety of their hotel entrance, they were accosted by two young men - a scuffle ensued, a shot fired, Dr. Banks lay dead on the sidewalk. Fighting Time tells the story of what happened next - hours, days, weeks, and years after those horrible seconds.

Historia
The January 6th attack is an unprecedented crime in American history. Sprawling and openly political, it can't be handled by the traditional rules and norms of law enforcement—threatening the very idea of justice and its role in society. A mass of online tipsters—"sedition hunters"—have mobilized, simultaneously providing the FBI with valuable intelligence. In this work of extraordinary reportage, Ryan Reilly gets to know would-be revolutionaries, obsessive online sleuths, and FBI agents, and shines a light on a justice system that's straining to maintain order in our polarized country.

Thanks for Telling This Story!
Revisado: 10-20-23
This is such an interesting Jan 6 story. I’m so glad to now know more about the effort to help bring the seditionists to justice. I hope they are as proud of themselves as I believe they should be. And Ryan, thanks for reading your own story. That was a treat.

Glad to know this story now
Revisado: 10-15-23
I never seem to go wrong with Bob Woodward’s works, and this was no exception. There’s so much we never knew! I learned about the book from Cassidy Hutchinson mentioning it. She and Alex Butterfield are very different but with what they did have in common, I’m glad she was able to find him and make a connection. The country needed Alex Butterfield and it needs Cassidy Hutchinson now.

Historia
Steven A. Sund, one of only ten men in history to hold the title of Chief of the US Capitol Police, has coordinated dozens of National Special Security Events, responded to numerous critical incidents and active shooter events, and has protected every living US president. But nothing could have prepared him for the violent attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

So many questions
Revisado: 01-07-23
And a lot not answered. I really appreciate that Chief Sund has offered his perspective in this book that I know was difficult to write. I loved all the background he provided all through the book. I learned so much. And I learned how little I know - how little we all know - about just how and why things went as they did. So glad I saw the interview with Stephanie Ruhle and learned about it. This is how I spent the second anniversary of the attack.

Historia
Jason Chercher is not doing well in love or life. Just two weeks after his wife leaves him, he receives a phone call that his estranged mother has passed away, days before Christmas - leaving her home and all her belongings to him. Frankly, he would like to see everything just burned. But curiosity about his past and anxiety about his future fuels him to make the drive from Salt Lake City to her home in Medford, Oregon. Maybe cleaning out her house will be slightly less depressing than spending the holidays alone, watching reruns of Christmas classics.

Historia
Ascending to the leadership role of US Attorney for the Southern District, which includes Manhattan and several counties to the north, is a capstone to any legal career: it entails guiding a team of the best lawyers in America in selecting and winning cases that often have global import. Geoffrey Berman was honored to be tapped for the job by Donald Trump in 2018. The manner in which Trump had dispatched his predecessor Preet Bharara was troubling, but the institution was fabled for its independence. Surely he could manage.

Good one!
Revisado: 09-16-22
I enjoyed hearing about a lot of SDNY cases profiled that I didn’t know much about. I was aware of a lot of what Geoffrey Bergman relayed about the corruption in the Trump Administration era DOJ - basically Barr - but I learned a few sickening things I didn’t know. This was a good idea for Bergman to write this book. It was an easy listen.
