Historia
Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

Well, I tried
Revisado: 01-02-22
The story seemed like one of would like… guy going to other places in the universe, magic, imaginative stuff… I didn’t care about the relationships, or the undercurrent of sexual ambiguity, and can accept sex scenes that are an important part of the story and are tastefully written. But, please.. after the third or fourth excruciatingly graphic sex scene that seemed like it was put in for no good reason, I gave up. I wanted to like it. But the story, what little of it the was seemed to be completely subsumed by the detailed descriptions of sexual minutia. It was a credit wasted.

Revisado: 11-04-18
I tried to like it, I really did, but I just couldn’t get past the stilted story and the narration that took itself waaay too seriously and seemed to border on pontificatious, if I may coin a word.

Good story
Revisado: 05-27-15
Ok. So I liked the first in the series enough to start this one. And really enjoyed this story to the point that when it was over I was so disappointed that it was done! I have since hurried over to Audible to get the next in the series. I guess I am hooked. It's fun. It's fractured fairy tales redone for grown ups.

excellent beginning to a great trilogy
Revisado: 04-24-13
As I listened to the first part of this book, I kept experiencing deja vue... I was sure I had read something like this before! Much to my surprise and delight, I realized that I had read the first chapter in a Sci Fi magazine. I was really delighted to hear the rest of the story in the entire novel.
This is one which, for me, was not complete until I had heard the subsequent novels, all equally good.
I liked the narration, once I got used to the slower pace of the reading. I listen in the car on my commute, and have been caught up in the story from the first moment I recognized the first chapter.
I do have to say, I also had to get used to the author's writing style... so much of it was in present tense.
But a good way to spend my time, I have enjoyed all three of the novels.

fast moving mystery with multiple storylines
Revisado: 11-25-12
I really liked this story. It was long, but the detail that went into it needed that length. I enjoyed the characters and their viewpoints. I liked how the story moved along even with so much detail.
The narrator was able to help me distinguish the characters well without being campy. He was easy to understand and I liked his voice.

Historia
This novel by Carl Hiaasen, author of Tourist Season and Native Tongue, begins as most thrillers do, with a killing. But this is no everyday, hum-drum, garden variety killing. Our hero, Nick Stranahan, a 42-year-old private investigator who has killed five men and been married five times, skewers his attacker's aorta with the razor-sharp bill of a stuffed marlin.

Classic Hiaasen
Revisado: 11-25-12
I love Carl Hiaasen. His stories are fun, creative, and don't go so far that they creep me out. I love how he ends chapters and thoughts.
I also really liked George Wilson as narrator. He has a great voice, and did a wonderful job of painting the story's picture for me. He pacing was not rushed and there were pauses between thoughts and changes in scene. Very well done.

Historia
Considered by critics to be Barth's most distinguished novel, The Sot-Weed Factor has acquired the status of a modern classic. Set in the late 1600s, it recounts the chaotic odyssey of the hapless, ungainly Ebeneezer Cooke. Cooke is sent to the New World to oversee his father's tobacco business and to record the struggles of the Maryland colony in an epic poem. On his mission, he is captured by pirates and Indians; loses his father's estate to roguish impostors; falls in love with a former prostitute; and meets a gallery of treacherous characters who continually switch identities.

eh
Revisado: 11-25-12
The narrator was fine, he did great at managing the characters and helping me see their different personalities. I listened into the 7th chapter and it just never engaged me. I usually really like period pieces, too... but it just put me off somehow. I would return it if I could, but waited too long to give it a listen. Moral of the story: listen to your oldest purchases first.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

Loved the narration! The story was okay, with the best part for me being the insight into the Indian culture. But the story was really full of swearing and had lots of gory fighting scenes and beatings... and it never seemed to stop.

the end to a long but good story
Revisado: 08-02-12
I finally heard all of it. between the two books, it was loooong, but I had to hear the end of the story. This is the end of the story begun in Pandora's Star. Like it, the narrator was good but had terrible sound mixing in that the volume was all over the place from very quiet (almost inaudible) to quiet loud... needing frequent manual regulation of the volume while I listened to it.
It is a good story, and most of the characters' loose ends are tied up by the end of the story. I am not going to tell you how it turns out, but I liked it ;)
One thing to consider... IF you are a sensitive listener and are easily offended by sex scenes and/or swearing, there are parts of these books which may bother you. Some of the characters swear a lot... and morality is different in the world the author describes.
Just so ya know .
