Historia
Part memoir, part history, Burn Book is a necessary chronicle of tech’s most powerful players. This is the inside story we’ve all been waiting for about modern Silicon Valley and the biggest boom in wealth creation in the history of the world. When tech titans crowed that they would “move fast and break things,” Kara Swisher was moving faster and breaking news. While covering the explosion of the digital sector in the early 1990s, she developed a long track record of digging up and reporting the facts about this new world order.

Historia
In Dreams of El Dorado, H. W. Brands tells the thrilling, panoramic story of the settling of the American West. He takes us from John Jacob Astor's fur trading outpost in Oregon to the Texas Revolution, from the California gold rush to the Oklahoma land rush. He shows how the migrants' dreams drove them to feats of courage and perseverance that put their stay-at-home cousins to shame - and how those same dreams also drove them to outrageous acts of violence against indigenous peoples and one another. El Dorado was at least as elusive in the West as it ever was in the East.

Great survey of a huge area over a long time. Generally well read, with the exception of some of the names of rivers.

Insightful, well written, well read

This is a fascinating look at how PG&E got into the situation where their lines were such a problem. It has just the right level of detail to provide context and illustrate issues while still moving along at a good clip.

Historia
We are living in a strange world—Salmon calls it “the New Not Normal.” The Phoenix Economy explores the ramifications of the pandemic years, many of which are surprisingly positive. In doing so, Salmon makes sense of one of the most disorienting and devastating events of our lifetimes. He examines the critical aspects of our lives that have been transformed in three parts: Time and Space, Mind and Body, and Business and Pleasure.

Interesting point in time analysis
Revisado: 06-11-23
Salmon is always interesting, articulate, and well-sourced. This book feels very much like the type of point-in-time news and trend analysis he excels at, which is fun enough if you know what you're getting into. More tickles your brain than blows your hair back.

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

Historia
In September 1838, a young Englishman named Charles Darwin hit upon the idea that "natural selection" among competing individuals would lead to wondrous adaptations and species diversity. Twenty-one years passed between that epiphany and publication of On the Origin of Species. The human drama and scientific controversy of that time constitute a fascinating, tangled tale that illuminates this cautious naturalist who sparked an intellectual revolution.

Should be interesting; is a dull recitation of dates
Revisado: 01-09-23
One of those unfortunate history books that doesn't seem to have any emphasis propelling it forward, which is a shame given the importance of the topic.

This is a gripping adventure chock-full of "you-are-there" moments. Fluckey has drawn on logs, reports, letters, interviews, and a recently discovered illegal diary kept by one of his torpedomen.

Oustanding!
Revisado: 08-14-20
The narrative in book is superb as is the performance. It is well paced, with enough detail to give you the sense of being on patrol without getting bogged down in minutiae. I flew through the recording in less than a week.
My only regret is not having a physical copy so I could look up the spelling of place names and chart the movements of Barb, though there are sone available online.
