His only diversion these days is tormenting staid Jane Cecil, the Queen’s favorite Lady-in-Waiting. Seeing her vexed amuses him more than any royal entertainment.

Good but needed a new narrator.
Revisado: 11-13-23
If you couldn't maintain the accent the whole book then why'd you even try? Alisander losing his accent is very noticeable and while it doesn't detract from the story it is distracting. Especially since the Queen keeps her accent.

A better ending would’ve been a divorce
Revisado: 08-19-23
This is one of the few romances I’ve ever heard where I wished the couple didn’t end up together but beginning to end the husband is such a terrible inconsiderate person who publicly humiliated his wife and never does anything to atone for it instead expecting her to put all the effort into their relationship and continue showing pride in being his wife. Even at one point in his own words proving to her that he doesn’t need her love. He continuously puts his wants above Amiee’s and for the life of me I don’t understand why she lets him. I’m supposed to believe she has a strong will but she spends the book acting like this man’s lapdog and it’s pathetic. I can think of at least five endings that would’ve been better than the one we got that would’ve been far more satisfying. There are at least two points in the book where the husband is claiming he knows what he did wrong and is or is not going to do something, and I really wanted to ask, how’s it feel that no one believes you? Because honestly with the way he was talking and acting none of the other characters believed him and I didn’t believe him either.

Historia
Princess Una harbors no illusions about her claims to Karadok's throne. The last of her ill-fated line, she is just grateful she emerged from the dark days of war with her head still on her shoulders. After three years under house arrest, she is keen to start her own life afresh, hopefully in relative obscurity. What she does not realize is the extraordinary scheme the king has devised to find her a suitable bridegroom.

I love this story but it has two major problems
Revisado: 08-01-23
Problem one it’s too short. I absolutely loved listening to these two and I wanted more. Plus I feel like Una really should’ve confronted Armand about some things he said and did instead of brushing it under the rug but it is befitting her character not to.
Problem two, and this is the serious one, the reason Armand got drunk in the first chapter is very important and it’s never answered. Because he either A. got drunk so he could go through with his wedding night.(A.K.A drink till she’s cute) B. got drunk so he couldn’t go through with it. Or C. got drunk because he was upset he had to go through with it. I feel like his intentions are important because everyone’s aware he’s drunk, so drunk he couldn’t walk, or take off his own clothes, couldn’t remember it the next day(or ever), and couldn’t recognize his own wife. That’s SA if he actually had no intentions of going through with it. Strip the event down to the facts a drunk man was dragged into a room stripped naked and rolled on top of a woman in hopes his muscle memory would take over and he’d be able to consummate the marriage. Like if he was a real person that’d be a pretty degrading thing to have happen to you. Thankfully this is a story and a very good one at that, like I said I absolutely love it, and ultimately the only thing Armand regrets about the night was that he got drunk in the first place and can’t remember it. Not that it happened because that meant he got his wife.

Never did Sabina Burrell imagine that foiling a plot against her sister would lead to her having to wed the arrogant Sir Jeffree de Crecy. She has never met such a loathsome man, and that included her late husband.

Love the story but not the performance
Revisado: 06-16-23
Not the narrator’s best performance out of the series. The voices sounded kinda ugly this time and some of the words weren’t delivered how I thought they’d be where the narrator interpreted them as arguing when I read it as them teasing each other. Don’t know which one’s more accurate just know I don’t like stories where the characters fight too much.

Captivating but occasionally cringe
Revisado: 01-10-23
I liked the story but there were points where I thought it was trying to be a typical romance instead of unique. In the third act they tell instead of show a lot, and a couple of lines were superfluous. Some not all of the intimacy scenes drag to where I don’t feel what it means for the characters instead it becomes an awkward novelty. Though I will highly praise the use of language because I was only listen I thought I’d lose the plot at points. Despite being a third person novel each character still had their own way of speaking, so it was easy to get immersed in their perspective during each pov change. Even when the MC’s are sharing a scene I still knew who I was following.
