Historia
My sadistic mother and god-fearing father believe I have the devil inside of me because I heal after their abuse. I accepted long ago I would die in the very place I'd been born without ever feeling the sun on my skin. Then, one day, my mother took me from my father's religious cult in the wake of his death. Nearly a week later, and after countless hours with her boyfriend Jed's creepy remarks, I find myself in Washington State. I had only ever interacted with my parents and now Jed, so you can imagine my surprise when I ran smack dab into possibly the most handsome man in the world.

I did not expect to love this book...
Revisado: 04-23-25
Wow! I did not expect to love this book but I DID! I binge-listened like crazy. It has excellent narration (will be looking for these narrators again) and the story was SO good! So fun and entertaining with just enough sizzle to be sexy. I was blown away! I immediately bought the first book on Kindle and both mediums on the 2nd book.
I don't want to give any spoilers so all I will say is that I am not typically ok with super naive FMCs but this one actually rang true - there is a reason for the naivety that, while sooo messed up, makes it more than reasonable.
NOTE: This book contains physical violence but not anything I consider gratuitous violence - not violence for the sake of violence but to move the story onward.

Was this a Computer Generated Narration?
Revisado: 07-30-23
I have ZERO issue with the way FOAL and ANDALUSIAN were pronounced. They are legit pronunciations- I happen to hear them on a weekly basis where I live. The story so far is GREAT and I will be buying the actual book to read because the woman narrating is the most annoying thing I have had to listen to in awhile and I couldn't get past chapter 3. She reads like a computer generated voice-over. And EVERY sentence is drawn out at the end in a nasal downward pitch. I can't explain. Just know that it is so distracting and irritating that I have noted her and am not buying another audio book narrated by her. It's a real shame because the characters seem really fun and interesting - like characters I would want to get to know.
So, I will get the books and pass on the audios narrated by this person.

Worst narration...Ever.
Revisado: 05-27-21
I couldn't get past the first few minutes of the first chapter. The narrator was incredibly nasal, had a strange cadence and an almost sing-song quality that was just not ok to listen to.
The downside is that I really like this book in print.

Please stop with the preaching...
Revisado: 09-15-20
This is an interesting storyline and I like how it spawned another series - which, by the way, seems to be lacking the serious annoyance of this series. Namely, extreme amounts of preaching. Preaching about organic, non GMO, recycling, vegetarianism (which I happen to be lately and I *still* felt like I was being browbeaten), etc. Seriously, there is NOTHING sleek or sexy about a Prius or eating organic and/or Gluten Free frozen pizza. Trust me about the pizza...
Point is, that it was so much of the preaching that it actually got IN THE WAY of the story. I tried reading it but it got to the point that it was like my eyes hitting "speed bumps" and I went to the audio to see if it was better. Its less annoying because Kristin Potter does such a fab job of the narrating that its MUCH less noticeable. Its still a struggle, though. I went on to book 2 with more than half of book 1 left to go just to see if it got better. Its still there, but a little less so.
Anyway, the characters are fun and, aside from the preachy judgemental attitude of the lead female character, I felt they started to flesh out nicely when I quit listening.
I am attempting to finish listening to book 2 right now (its less of a struggle) and will then go back and retry book 1.
BTW, it seems like the first 2 books really need to be read in order (because I was lost after just a little way into book 2 - though the author attempts to backfill with explanations)
I would have given the ebook and the audio book a 5 if only I didn't have an overwhelming urge to eat a cow and mix my garbages as a form of rebellion.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job?

I absolutely loved this book. The story was well paced and the characters were great! I would like one of each, please...lol
Narration was spot on - great pacing and conveyed the attitude of the chacters beautifully.
I am definitely getting more by both the author and the narrator!

Amaryllis Lark is one of the best psychic detectives on St. Helen's, the Earth colony recently cut off from the mother planet, yet not so very different from home. Lucas Trent, the rugged head of Lodestar Exploration, isn't keen on the prim type - and from her crisp business suit to her cool evaluation of his request to bust a corporate thief, beautiful Amaryllis is excruciatingly proper. But when a bold hunch heats up into a twisting murder investigation, by-the-book Amaryllis must let her guard down and break some rules.

WORST NARRATOR EVER
Revisado: 11-27-18
I love this book and really liked the original recording. I was absolutely looking forward to this release until I actually had to listen to it. I couldn't get more than 5 minutes into the recording. I had to stop it. The narration was horrible. The narrator used a nasal whine for the lead female and randomly sped up and slowed down the narration - meaning it was impossible to change the setting to try to fix the issue. I am not sure who let this actually get into production but, frankly, they should be demoted or fired. I can honestly say that there has not been a narrated book I have disliked more than the one narrated by Tanya Eby. I am hoping to God that if Zinnia and Orchid get revamped, it is with someone else narrating them or I will absolutely avoid them like the plague they would be!

So, Audible is exchanging my audiobooks that I have already bought for updated versions that I do NOT want. If I had wanted someone other than Eve Matheson, I would have bought that one to begin with. This USED to be one of my favorite books to listen to...now, it's just so much noise.

This is NOT Rosemary Leach!
Revisado: 02-04-17
When I originally bought this audiobook from Audible, it was the one I wanted - read by Leach. Then, I redownloaded it onto a new device and suddenly it is NOT Rosemary Leach. Definitely. Not.
While I am sure Ruth Sillers is not terrible, she is not what I expected nor even close to what I wanted.
Now, I have to worry that the audiobooks I have bought will be summarily exchanged for those I did NOT purchase. In fact, I had better go check my others right now.

I love TP. I just STILL prefer Nigel.
Revisado: 11-01-16
While TP never goes wrong in story line and characterization, he really should have stuck with Nigel Planer. I find Briggs to be flat and lacking the depth of tone Nigel always brought to the audio.
