Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Nothing beats this audiobook version. It feels like White is sitting on the porch of a farmhouse telling us about Wilbur and Charlotte. The writing is perfect. The reading is perfect.

Finally!!
Revisado: 02-19-24
I've been checking for this for years. Hooray! We use these books in our homeschool. I'm happy we have the option to listen on audible now.
This is my favorite of the four in the series. I wish the others were written more at this level. The first is especially dumbed down. I understand why Bauer wrote them that way, so the child grows up with them, but there is such a huge difference in the writing between 1 and 4.
This book begins when Queen Victoria was ruling England, and the last page in this references Nelson Mandel being elected as president of South Africa in 1994.
The reader does a great job. I've been through 5 chapters so far, listening and following along in the book. Most was the same, but I did notice a few additions.

Historia
"Marley was dead to begin with...." These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he?

Historia
Fiver could sense danger. Something terrible was going to happen to the warren; he felt sure of it. They had to leave immediately. So begins a long and perilous journey of survival for a small band of rabbits. As the rabbits skirt danger at every turn, we become acquainted with the band, its humorous characters, and its compelling culture, complete with its own folk history and mythos. Fiver’s vision finally leads them to Watership Down, an upland meadow. But here they face their most difficult challenges of all.

Revisado: 09-22-22
I've read and/or listened to this probably 4 or 5 times now. Hazel had the vision to build a safe place where all rabbits can be cared for, and being an incredible leader, he is able to work with others to create that.

I Feel Trained, but Room for Improvement
Revisado: 08-12-20
Definitely a great training. Not just timing you too improvement, but pacing, strengthening, etc. Good stepping up each time so we were always stretching. We could look back and see things that had been hard, but we were now doing harder things.
Though the workout were different, the talking was all the same. I wish there had been some instruction and information thrown in - other ways to prepare for race day, how your body improves from running, quick food suggestions for runners, what goals could we be thinking about for the day, motivation ideas, etc. Suddenly in the last workout she mentioned tapering off, but no real explanation. My daughter and I imagined her recording 10 different sound bites that got played over and over. It would have given my mind somewhere to go besides trying not to die. 🙂
Still, we definitely improved. Trying to decide where we want to go from here.

Great book, but why no chapter separations?
Revisado: 11-14-19
I'm learning a ton, but with no chapter separations it makes it really hard to switch between the book and the audio.

So hard to listen to!
Revisado: 08-17-19
If it wasn't free I would return it. Listening in the car, and the dramatics are so loud/soft, fast/slow that we're having a terrible time following. It's such a great story, but we quickly lost interest.
