Historia
After first contact, humanity learns that the galaxy is a place of ancient and far-reaching authorities. The Earth has not emerged as an autonomous peer into a community of sovereign worlds, but as an involuntary entrant into a galactic society whose demands are not light. John Riley, the physicist who inadvertently touched off first contact with his research into gravitation, now sees that the implications of his discoveries lead to more than technical frontiers. The galaxy, the nature of the Universe itself, is not what humanity has believed it to be.

A Complex and Philosopically Sublime Plot
Revisado: 03-23-25
Unintentionally meant as a derogatory judgement call, I deem this unique plot as unpremeditated for the light-hearted and/or thrill-seeking listener; for it consists of an agglutination of ostensibly unrelated views, understandings, and expectations. In fact, I have never come across any equivalent storyline, within the Science Fiction category, vis-a-vis its utterly philosophical and psychological approach, unusually intertwined with technological marvels that require deep reflection to obtain an approximation of its purpose…
Therefore, assuming the audience is prepared to navigate ineffable concepts and ideals, this book may require additional revisits so as to enable one to grasp ethereal constructs essential for him/her to concur with my perception thereof.
In essence, I consider this audiobook an unusually fictitious masterpiece.

While lukewarm from inception, the plot keeps getting larger and more captivating. It represents an ideal work for sci-fi fans who prefer first-contact stories.

A Delightful Time-Travel / Alien Romance
Revisado: 11-15-24
Perhaps romance is not the appropriate term for a short headline. The bottom line is the delight I enjoyed listening to the gradual but drastic transformation of our lovely protagonist, the excitable, lovely Mrs. Mason. BRAVO!

Good Plot Despite Historical Errors
Revisado: 11-12-24
While I enjoyed this audiobook and cherished Hatshepsut's memory/reign, there were some blatant, unforgivable errors in referring to the doubtful minor wife of her father, Thutmose II, namely Enheduana, an Akkadian princess. Firstly, by the time of her reign (c. 1479 – 1458 BCE), the Akkadian Empire no longer existed in Mesopotamia. Secondly, Enheduana is a Sumerian name for the Akkadian daughter of King Sargon the Great (r. 2334 - 2279 BCE). Sargon was the father of the great poet-priestess Enheduanna (l. 2285-2250 BCE), the first author known by name in history.

Historia
The future of Anyar is being woven with threads spread across the planet. Those myriad threads contribute to a tapestry whose final mosaic remains obscure. An enigmatic alien race scattered five human castaways across the planet Anyar, far enough apart that they should never meet. The planet itself is a mystery. How is it already inhabited by humans when they did not evolve there? Castaway Joseph Colsco, now known as Yozef Kolsco, gradually finds himself at the center of resistance to an empire with ambitions to rule the world by any means necessary: Narthon.

Historia
Brunhild was a foreign princess, raised to be married off for the sake of alliance-building. Her sister-in-law Fredegund started out as a lowly palace slave. And yet - in sixth-century Merovingian France, where women were excluded from noble succession and royal politics was a blood sport - these two iron-willed strategists reigned over vast realms, changing the face of Europe.

A Precious Narrative of the Merovindian History
Revisado: 10-24-24
Thanks to Shelley Puhak, I became aware of the significant, bloody history of the Merovingian Dynasty, the predecessor of the Carolingian Charlemagne. I was particularly astonished by the similarity with their archaic predecessor of about 1100 years, namely, the Sargonid lineage of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. Additionally, I was enthralled by the unprecedented power and cruelty of two contemporaneous queens, who, despite their diametrically opposed origin, temperament, education, and social standing, exerted rare examples of strong females on the throne. Finally, I must congratulate (once again) one of Audible's best narrators: Cassandra Campbell.
Bravas!

Historia
The ancient Near East is known as the "cradle of civilization" - and for good reason. Mesopotamia, Syria, and Anatolia were home to an extraordinarily rich and successful culture. Indeed, it was a time and place of earth-shaking changes for humankind: the beginnings of writing and law, kingship and bureaucracy, diplomacy and state-sponsored warfare, mathematics and literature. This Very Short Introduction audiobook offers a fascinating account of this momentous time in human history.

This Great Work Reveals Amanda Podany at her Best
Revisado: 10-24-24
Since I discovered Amanda H. Podany as an Ancient Mesopotamian scholar among various works published by "The Great Courses Plus" (a.k.a. Wondrium), I became enamored with the great civilizations of deep antiquity that flourished between the land of the "two rivers" - The Tigres and the Euphrates - namely, Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, and Assyria. Most importantly, Professor Podany introduced me to the Hurrian kingdom of Mitanny, and the amazing Neo-Assyrian Empire (934/911 - 612/609 BCE). Consequently, thanks to this brilliant British scholar - currently Professor Emeritus of History at California State Polytechnic University - I intellectually enhanced my historical repertoire becoming an avid lover of the Ancient Mesopotamian kingdoms and empires. BRAVA!
I wish this audiobook could be retained in my growing Audible library if it were not turned unavailable as of October 30, 2024.

A PUERILE BUT SUBLIME SCI-FI LOVE STORY
Revisado: 10-16-24
While I was relatively critical of my choice of this audiobook, as the plot developed, I could not help falling for the impossibility of the protagonists' romance... I dare speculate that only those who have experienced a hopeless love story are doomed to grasp the immense sorrow of an unattainable, passionate attachment. BRAVO!
