Historia
In a pulls-no-punches essay intended to provoke rational discussion, Stephen King sets down his thoughts about gun violence in America. Anger and grief in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School are palpable in this urgent piece of writing, but no less remarkable are King's keen thoughtfulness and composure as he explores the contours of the gun-control issue and constructs his argument for what can and should be done.

It's about time
Revisado: 02-17-13
Would you listen to Guns again? Why?
Oh yes because the author makes many good points an I would lik to go back to understand them all a bit better
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
Stephen King is a gun owner and advocate, yet he admonishes the 'powers that be' for lax gun control. There is a compromise to be made here. If and when it is accepted will drastically reduce the number of lives wasted.
What about Christian Rummel’s performance did you like?
He was good; but I would have preferred the author in this instance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Certainly; it's short compared to other audiobooks.
Any additional comments?
Other than Stephen King's chronic bad language, I thought the essay was very well written. The topic is timely and the subject was well researched To me it is simple; no guns nobody dies. I realize that this is akin to closing the barn door after the horses have taken the bus back to town, but as Mr.King puts it 'how many people have to die before something, anything changes. Does it have to be in our neighbourhood, involve someone we know or love before a change is demanded?' So I think that it's about time that someone voiced an opinion that may intiate the discussion in the hope that in the not too distant future, change might be realized.

Can't finish
Revisado: 12-18-10
Sadly, I won't be finishing this book because of language choice. I don't feel that it is acceptable to take our Saviour's name in vain and finishing this book, I feel would be hypocritical. Not only is it unfortunate, but so unnecessary. Why books, especially audio books, do not indicate offensive language is a mystery to me.

less than 1 star
Revisado: 10-10-10
If I could have, I would have given this book zero stars. Not for the content. I can't listen to this narrator for another second and therefore have no idea what the book is about. So well rated, I didn't listen first to know that he would drive me this bananas. Another credit bites the dust - sigh

Issues
Revisado: 03-05-10
It must be unbelievably difficult to end a book well. House Rules ends so badly that you wonder who wrote that ending. Similarly, it seems to be impossible to write a book with language appropriate for everyone. Succumbing to the lowest common denominator is getting old. Just because one expects a character to respond a certain way, doesn't mean they have to.
I normally like Picoult's books, yet this one for the above two reasons, doesn't rank with her best work. I did however learn a lot about Asperger's syndrome. I know two people who suffer from this particular health burden, and I feel that I now have a better understanding of what life is like for them.

Not nearly as good
Revisado: 10-17-09
I looked forward to listening to this book but was sadly, disappointed. I found very little to like in the main character and for this reason had a difficult time finishing the story. With Jeannette Walls' next book, I'll save the credit and take it out of the library.

In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

Great book with issues
Revisado: 05-11-09
I loved most everything about this book. The story was compelling and the characters are well developed. My issue was primarily with the language of the Skeeter character which is at times offensive. Had the language not been an issue for me I would have given this book 5 stars.
However, a review of this book would not be complete without making mention of the wonderful narrators. While all were excellent, I find Jenna Lamia particularly exemplary despite the aforementioned language issues attributed to her character.

This book starts off weird and just gets weirder. From the synopsis provided with the book, I expected something different. I'm only 3 hours in and I'm really uncertain as to whether or not I will bother to finish it. I'm not a fan of gratuitous inappropriate language and this book is choke full. Can't say I'm all that interested in what happens to Madeline.

From mega-selling author Jodi Picoult comes an engrossing tale of medical morality and parental responsibility. Charlotte O'Keefe's daughter is born with osteogenesis imperfecta and will endure endless broken bones. Facing unthinkable medical costs, Charlotte considers a troubling solution. If she goes to court and says she would have terminated the pregnancy had she known of her daughter's condition, she might get enough money for a lifetime of medical expenses.

Not up to par
Revisado: 04-24-09
Jodi Picoult is one of my favourite authors. However, this being said, Handle With Care harkens back too closely to My Sister`s Keeper. Moreover, I find the idea of insurance fraud for `the sake of the children` appalling. While I normally enjoy the moral dilemma Picoult includes in many of her works, I did not find the mother character sympathetic. To my thinking, the author goes to great lengths to prove the adage; money can’t buy happiness.

Having just finished listening to this book I have to say how surprised I am that it is listed in the kids section. The content is wholly inappropriate for children to say nothing of the language. I am completely dissatisfied with this book as I was expecting something completely different. It is disappointing really since this book was recommended to me and is very highly rated.
