I started this book seeing the reviews that the first part was too slow. this is more of a review of those readers than it is of the book--are all of your attention spans really that limited?

I thought it was riveting from beginning to end, and the scaffolding at the start was necessary for the full impact of the story.

5 Clones by Edward Bonilla is a fast-paced and exciting tale about a man who is trying to sell a group of cloned copies of himself as farm workers in a post Cal-Exit land of catastrophe. The book has many interesting elements that blend nicely together: there are shades of Mad Max, epistolary segments, mysterious folktales, sci-fi wonders, and action-packed thrills. The political setting Bonilla constructs is particularly well thought out and feels very plausible…very eerily plausible! It’s easy to get drawn into the main plot, but the campfire story type interludes stood out as particularly enjoyable. All the different moving parts of the story come together for a very satisfying ending, which also hints at much more to come. The narration, done by the author himself, was clear and easy to listen to. There were certainly distinctive voices for each of the characters. I will definitely be reading the sequel to see if Dan can find who he is looking for!

This book was especially fun to read, for me, since I have two pugs of my own. The world of Steampug is very creative and unique, with mysterious creatures and bizarre machinery.
Narrator Alan R Gron does such amazing work, truly breathing life into the book. He narrates the story so vividly, with such skill and wit, making for a truly unforgettable experience.

The description made it seem as if it had both parts, but this is only part 1. I feel ripped off.

Twisting, unpredictable, bold storytelling. The language is honest, entertaining, satisfying--the characters believable in their intricate absurdity. A portrait of modern misogyny, of postmodern disillusionment, of age-old manipulation. Lengthy, overdrawn, but in the way that makes you glad you ingested every last word.

Too many feelings. And most of them hurt. But that was a beautiful book. Haven't felt this way in a long time:
