Love the chemistry that’s brewing
Revisado: 10-22-24
Have to start by saying that I love the male narrator but the female narrator is kind of hard to listen through. I can’t put my finger on why because she’s not bad, but for me she’s hard to listen to. This is a great start to the story. I can definitely feel the chemistry building between the two and I love the dual POVs. That being said, I didn’t get that much out of book one. It was kind of slow going with no drama. The blurb made it sound like she was going to make him really work for it. That she was going to stay with him but refuse to put out for him as her way of holding power over him. She didn’t even make it 2 days which really was just disappointing. With all the debauchery and beautiful naked women always around, the author really missed an opportunity to create more then just drama but also add some damn emotion into their arrangement. And when they do have s3x the book pretty much ends abruptly. It’s essentially 7 hours of listening to a near play by play of less then 72 hours of their life. It fell very flat which is why I am only giving this a 3 star review. Will continue to listen because I am hoping for the excitement and drama to show up in book 2. Crossing my fingers.
It is written well. So there’s that.

My name is Jemma Blackburn, and I have a secret. I know vampires are real. I watched one murder my father eight months ago, and even though they tried to convince me it didn't happen - that I'd lost touch with reality due to the trauma, I know what I saw was real. Hollow Hills is now the place I call home. It was supposed to be my chance at a normal life. My chance to bury my secret and start over.

OBSESSED
Revisado: 08-12-24
I’ve read all the books (multiple times) and figured I wanted to listen to the Audible books too and am not disappointed! I’m even more in love with this work and the characters than I was before. Trace….ugh I love him! Gemma has been through so much and still pushes forward. And oh Dominic the bad guy you hate so much you could just claw his eyeballs out and can’t help but be intrigued by him. I could say so much more but don’t want to spoil the coming books. This is an absolute yes! You will not be disappointed!
My only issue is with the narrator. She’s good, but she talks way too freaking slow. Thank the gods we can control the speed. Some of her voices are odd too but it still doesn’t take away from the amazing world we are immersed in. Onto book 2.

Different then the typical
Revisado: 08-07-24
Solid 4 stars all the way around. I wish there was a male to do Orion’s POV chapters but it wasn’t terrible with Amanda. Her voices were good, her pitch matched the scenes, but there were some instances where she drawled out a word at the end of a sentence that didn’t feel like it fit. Still, I enjoyed listening to her voice. The story line flowed easily but I felt there were a lot of repeating the same information and drawing out the story unnecessarily. The twists were semi predictable but at least they weren’t in your face obvious. I love that this was a love story but still a “Yes I love this man but I will not stand ideally by while he wages war for the wrong reasons” and that she was willing to fight him. I absolutely adore them as a couple. The main issue I have is how it ended. I don’t want to spoil it so I’ll just say it felt like it’s either setting up for a second series where her son is the main character, or it was written for nothing. Either way, I would still highly recommend this book series. I feel like there’s definitely unfinished business here. Hopefully more to come.

Where to start
Revisado: 06-20-24
I have listened to this series a minimum of 3 times. (can't believe I haven't left a review!) It's a new take on vampires that is simply brilliant. Stella Bloom is one of my favorite narrators who is simply amazing and so talented. The only thing I struggled with was how long the prologue was, but even then it didn't feel like just an information dump. I love that it's a full length story and that it keeps moving as you go, not just stalling for chapters at a time. I have seen a lot of reviews on this book that take offense to the welfare mom and stigma of her not caring. I was a teenage mother (pregnant at 15) and on welfare for a few years and received foodstamps for at least a decade and if I am not offended by how her mom is portrayed then everyone else can back off. I have met women like that, women who use their kids as a paycheck and take advantage of the older child to watch the littles. It's a reality that does truly happen and I do not feel like RL Matthewson is painting all in this light. Anyways, I absolutely recommend reading this book and be prepared to fall in love with the whole series!

Everyone dreams of marrying a prince - except for me. I am nothing more than a pawn in my adoptive mother's diabolical plot against the seven kingdoms. I was the chosen tool, her sharpened blade that would cut the deepest into the heart of the kingdom of Baist. But like all deadly weapons, my wedding is two-edged sword that could cost me my soul. For I am Rosalie, one of the adopted daughters of Lady Eville, and it is my duty to enter into a loveless and hate-filled marriage with the narcissistic Crown Prince of Baist.

So Confused
Revisado: 06-10-24
It was very hard to get into this story. It just felt slapped together. Fairy tail creatures thrown in with little to no explanation or back story. I did enjoy the enemy’s to lovers aspect but even that fell flat to me. And (SPOILER) how the heck did she suddenly fall pregnant? Did I completely miss where they did anything more then kiss a couple times? I understand that this story, at least I think, is for younger people maybe even teens but even children and teenagers know where babies come from. I admit that I have a habit of listening while cleaning and doing chores but I am struggling to remember any chapter that even hinted that the two had s3x, so I am very confused. Pretty disappointed too. I hate to say this but I wouldn’t recommend this book unless you are very bored and can’t find anything else to listen to. I was originally excited to listen to all the books in this series but now I’m not sure I will even attempt book 2. Or maybe I will and pray the other books can redeem the cringy first book for this series.
Also, I struggled with the narrator and that could possibly be part of the reason o struggled to get into this book.

Slow burn
Revisado: 01-31-24
Not as good as the first book in the series but I still enjoyed it. It’s a very slow burning love story which I was not a fan of. Her constantly running like a coward all for fear of the challenge period fell a little flat. I think there was a lot added for the sake of filling pages because the story took forever to actually move forward. Also for it being a shifter book, I would have liked to see more of their wolves. Still do not like how the female narrator makes the alpha talk, very slow and old sounding. Still, the narrators I think did a great job and I would still recommend this book and series.

Love the love!!
Revisado: 01-29-24
I read this book a few years ago and fell in love with it. Never re-read it because I couldn’t remember the name. Just stumbled on it while browsing through Audiable for my next book and am so glad I did. I love these characters and this story line. Wish there was a bit less of the predictability but still love this book. Can’t wait to reintroduce myself to the rest of the series.
I will say that although the narrators were good, they weren’t the best. And honestly, the way she had the alpha talk, all slow and odd, gave the impression he was a weathered old man that’s had a stroke rather than the large and powerful alpha he is. That was my biggest pet peeve, made me cringe every time. His narration was tolerable but it didn’t give the feeling of him being the next alpha. He sounded weak and the emotions he tried to portray through his voice sounded forced. All in all though, I still highly recommend this book/series. So so glad I stumbled upon it!

It was written well but the story basically smut
Revisado: 04-26-23
I have to start by saying that I don’t mind the way this author writes, but the story itself is not appealing. The first book was OK, so I decided to go to the second. This is where things go sideways for me. I have nothing against books with a lot of sex in them but book 2 and 3 are literally 90% smut and 10% or less of an actual story. It’s just too much. Where I lost complete interest is a quarter into book 3 where it became clear that’s it’s nothing but BDSM “I’m your dominant and your my submissive” and “you can’t talk, orgasm, breathe, or even eat unless given permission” and that’s it. Not to mention she was a virgin so it just isn’t believable. Where are our strong females that are sick of being turned into sex toys for males? They are also supposed to be soulmates but it’s nothing but dirty(in my opinion disgusting)sex. Still, I pushed myself to continue, but I cannot bring myself to finish books 4&5. Not when the sex continues to get more disturbing with every book and it has become clear the last 2 are between men in their mid-late 30s and the females are 17, JUST turning 18. Makes my stomach turn. But hey, if this kind of thing is something you like, the author does seem able to actually write and the performances were decent. Also have to point out that books 1-3 have little to no back story on the females, not even their ages. The end of book 3 hints at “around this age” and tells you the ages of the 2 females in the last couple books. I usually never return books, but I can’t bring myself to finish this series let alone EVER re-listen to them. Very disappointed.

I don’t even know where to start so I guess I’ll say that the narrator is not my favorite, but she’s not terrible either. Some of the voices, or how certain characters finish a sentence made me cringe. The story line itself is very promising but I don’t feel like a lot of progress was made. It seemed the authors idea of making it suspenseful was sharing a lot of useless information in a dialog dump without actually saying anything. Or saying so much so fast that I had to rewind it 3 times to get the information right in my mind. I almost gave up on the book Multiple times but stuck with it because I was hoping it would get better. I’m not sure if I’m going to continue with the series though. The female MC comes across as f***ing stupid. How many times can the people around her be clearly talking in riddles about HER and she never says a damn thing or pushes for answers. It’s not believable that ANYONE would just continue on with their life when every one around her is clearly hiding important information from her, about her, right to her face …and never question them. This whole ,”I know there’s more their not telling me but I’m going to stick my head in the dirt and pretend I never heard anything” is an insult to heroines every where. Relationships are almost forced and characters fall a little flat. I hate that I feel like I’m tearing this book a part so I’ll leave it as, I didn’t hate it.

My life was perfect - until a shocking tragedy pulled the rug out from underneath me. My children were left without a father. I was without a husband and a provider. Instead of wallowing in my grief, I buried myself in my work at Dovetail Enterprises. Landing the promotion as the CEO’s right hand was exactly what I needed. Getting saddled with Milo Huxley as an assistant is exactly the opposite. I can’t stand him. He’s arrogant, irresponsible, and out for my job. As if that’s not bad enough, he has to be devastatingly sexy, and have a posh English accent that makes me squirm on top of it all.

Holy shit
Revisado: 08-10-22
I don’t know how I stumbled on this author but she’s quickly becoming a favorite. I love this series/stand alone/following a group of friends book(s). I won’t let any spoilers slip, but I will say that I loved this book. The male narrator was a little lacking to me but not enough to turn me off of the story. I also felt their “spark” was a little lacking but I love how they came together. I love even more then what almost ended them wasn’t a lie or simple misunderstanding. It was a real like grown up problem that was relatable. I do wish however, that Callum and Milo repaired their relationship and had the heart to heart that in my opinion still needs to be had.
