I thought I was reading the CS Forrester book but when I finished I received ads for it (The Good Shepherd “ I guess I listened to an adaptation based on the Movie????
While I enjoyed the book, wish I had selected the actual book not the movie version.

Historia
James Bennett, nephew of Sir Henry Merrivale (the cantankerous yet genius sleuth), has been invited to stay at White Priory for Christmas, among the retinue of the glamorous Hollywood actress Marcia Tait. Her producer, her lover, her playwright and her agent are all here along with the haughty master of the estate, Canifes and his daughter. So many suspects they become when Marcia Tait is found dead on Christmas morning in the lakeside pavilion, having been left there alone the night before and with a distinct lack of footprints in the snow to reveal any possible killer.

Not an unenjoyable audio book
Revisado: 12-18-23
Think the book should be read not listened to- I started it several times and still couldn’t differentiate between the characters. After awhile I found I didn’t care “who done it”
There are too many characters and too many red herrings. Perhaps reading it rather listening to it would be easier. Don’t plan on spending any more time trying to get interested …several hours wasted.

Historia
Sir John Waveney has inherited Waveney Hall. A veteran of the Great War himself, his inheritance has come because of the deaths in action of his two distant cousins, leaving him as the next male heir. He hopes to make the acquaintance of his two remaining cousins, Lady Jenifer Marr and Anne Belinda. But Lady Marr proves very vague about her twin sister's whereabouts. Is she traveling with a friend or (as has been intimated) has she been incarcerated in a mental institution? No one seems to actually know, and several people seem bent on frustrating John's attempts to find her.

Disappointed
Revisado: 12-03-23
Read a review and thought I’d try this Wentworth book since I enjoy many of the Miss Silver mysteries. Waste of time- the plot is dumb, the characters implausible, could easily foretell the plot and the ending.….reminds me of a Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden plot.
Very sorry the five star review persuaded me to buy this audio book. The narrator was fine but that’s the only positive element of the audio book.

Narrator’s voice seems American-????in an Agatha Christie novel ( awful)
The index indicates chapters but not books- given that I purchased the audio book because of the number of novels, I am unable to select a particular book. Horrible. I want my money back.

Historia
To millions of fans, All About Eve represents all that’s witty and wonderful in classic Hollywood movies. Its old-fashioned, larger-than-life stars - including Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe, Anne Baxter, George Sanders, and Celeste Holm - found their best roles in this movie, and its sophisticated dialogue has entered the lexicon. But there’s much more to know about All About Eve. Sam Staggs has written the definitive account of the making of this fascinating movie and its enormous influence on both film and popular culture.

Is the book self published? Just so awful. I loved the movie and thought I’d enjoy the book but the rambling style and almost stream of consciousness ruined the book for me. I read the reviews and thought it can’t be that bad but it was even worse than the worst review. Clearly the author includes
every factoid related not only to to the film, the writer but also to actors who could of been in the film. Do I care that someone who was considered for the part of Margo had a driver provided by the studio available 24 hours a day?

Historia
Mrs. Hawkins, the majestic narrator of A Far Cry from Kensington, takes us well in hand and leads us back to her threadbare years in postwar London. There, as a fat and much admired young war widow, she spent her days working for a mad, near-bankrupt publisher (“of very good books”) and her nights dispensing advice at her small South Kensington rooming house. At work and at home Mrs. Hawkins soon uncovered evil: shady literary doings and a deadly enemy; anonymous letters, blackmail, and suicide.

Enjoyable read
Revisado: 01-27-21
I enjoyed the narration: the narrator used a variety of distinct voices. It was easy to follow.
The novel was well structured and kept my interest. I enjoyed listening because I couldn’t predict what was going to happen or the ending. I felt an interest in not only the characters but also the plot development. Loved it!

Lonesome Dove
Revisado: 09-25-20
I loved this production of Lonesome Dove. The narrator‘s voice was pitch perfect. I was torn while listening to the story: I didn’t want to stop but I didn’t want to finish since I enjoyed it so much.
I was a bit intimidated initially because of the length of the book but is that I finished it I can’t imagine what could have been deleted.
