Very disappointing
Revisado: 07-18-24
I loved the first two books and was really looking forward to the third in the series, but everything about this book really disappointed me: the murder was dull, the solving of it equally dull. The wonderful side characters such as Audrey reduced to being paper thin. Storylines that didn’t go anywhere and felt like padding, designed to achieve word count.
I feel there was just too much emphasis on Daniel’s love life for a murder mystery. I do hope the series continues and the fourth book is a return to form.

A hugely enjoyable, must-listen murder mystery sure to appeal to fans of Elly Griffiths, Anthony Horowitz, and Agatha Christie, with one of the best and most satisfying conclusions you'll ever hear. A classic in Japan, available in English for the first time.

Awful narration from P.J. Ochlan!
Revisado: 07-25-23
Many reviewers have already commented about P.J. Ochlan's terrible narration and I couldn't agree more. He truly RUINED this book for me. Please read it instead.

Wish Lesley Manville Had Recorded This
Revisado: 10-08-22
Sigh. With all respect to the great Fiona Shaw, her reading of this book falls far short of Lesley Manville’s excellent performances of the other books in the Thursday Murder Club series.
What Manville did so well was create highly distinctive and engaging portraits of the individual characters. That aspect is totally absent in The Bullet That Missed. Manville’s pace and narrative delivery were also exemplary.
I blame the director for Shaw’s extremely breathy and somnambulant reading. The poor voice direction made it a real struggle to follow the story and be engaged, which is such a pity since I love the characters of Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim so much.
I would recommend that any fans of the books actually read them before listening to this audiobook (if they still wish to spend a credit
after this review!)
I bet Richard Osman is disappointed too.

Historia
Jen's hen party is going to be out of control. She's rented a luxury getaway on its own private island. The helicopter won't be back for seventy-two hours. They are alone. They think. As well as Jen, there's the pop diva and the estranged ex-bandmate, the tennis pro and the fashion guru, the embittered ex-sister-in-law and the mouthy future sister-in-law. It's a combustible cocktail, one that takes little time to ignite, and in the midst of the drunken chaos, one of them disappears.

Lazy and unimaginative - waste of a credit
Revisado: 08-18-22
What a waste of a credit. This is my first Brookmyre novel and I was expecting a least a fun and decent read. But honestly this book is a waste of time. The setup is so cliched, the plotting lazy, and the characters ridiculous. Would YOU attend a 3-day hen party of someone you despised (and suspected of murder!) on an isolated island??? It feels like Brookmyre was just trying to reach a word limit or fulfil a publishing deal.
The whole murder mystery thing of a bunch of people getting stuck on am island with a killer on the loose is getting so overdone (think Hunting Party by Lucy Foley, another disappointing read). Skip this one and listen to Moriarty: The Devi's Game by Charles Kindinger. IMO a really excellent audio murder mystery that's worth every penny.
