Listening to this audio book was outstanding! Being read by the author himself gave it the best quality and detail. He was telling HIS story. You can hear it in his voice, almost hear his heartbeat. His experiences were fascinating and so detailed! I enjoyed every minute!

Was glued to my earbuds everywhere listening to this thriller! Driving, walking, shopping, dishes, whatever! Patrick Robinson had me hooked on this thriller. George Guidall is also outstanding. I hope he continues to be the reader for the series. Up next Shark Mutiny. Can’t wait.

I read The Lieutenants while in Army OCS. My classmates and I loved it. Over the next few years I devoured the rest of the series. Could not wait until the next one came out. I was in Army flight school when The Aviators came out and just loved all the local references. 30 years later, I signed up for Audible and listened to the whole series once again. Eric G. Dove does a pretty good job with his voices and accents. You can almost always tell who is speaking. In the early books he has trouble reading military time correctly - 1000 hours he says "one thousand hours" instead of "ten hundred hours", but actually gets better later on. He also doesn't know when to pronounce acronyms as words, versus spelling out each letter, which can be exhausting. Mr. Griffin also didn't do his research about the CH-47 Chinook. As a former Chinook mechanic I can tell you that a Chinook doesn't have a tail rotor! It has two rotor heads, identical in size, each with three blades. One goes clockwise, the other goes counter-clockwise. They are in-sync or meshed so they do not hit each other. We refer them as the forward rotorhead or system and the aft rotorhead or system. Never ever ever ever is the aft rotor system called a "tail rotor"! (Okay, rant over.) Now to Special Ops. First off, I haven't finished it. So much of it is a complete retelling of The Aviators, which I just finished, I thought maybe I had fat-fingered my iPhone and was repeating the last book. It's one thing to briefly catch up with past events, but these are word for word scenes from the previous book! I can't believe Mr. Griffin has done this! There are some changes however. In one scene he changed a perfectly good description of PAR approach to Cairns Army Airfield to an ILS approach, but the description is still a PAR approach! Okay, so that's down in the weeds for you non-aviators, but it bugged me. Anyway, I will probably continue to listen but based on all the reviews I'm seeing about the book on here and Amazon, I really wish I hadn't wasted my credits. The Aviators was a decent "last book" for this series, but Special Ops is a dud.

Read this entire series as a young 2nd Lieutenant just out of OCS, but having been enlisted right out of high school first, I identify with multiple characters and situations, including learning to fly at Ft. Rucker, Alabama and flying both airplanes and helicopters in combat. I really enjoyed and being able to listen to someone else read it to me, it just great! Having said that, I wish someone would help Eric G. Dove with this pronunciations of military phrases, acronyms, and terms. For example, he likes to say T W X and read each letter, when in the Army, we (used to) say "Twix". WEB Griffen likes to print military orders on the pages of his books and for those of us who served, it's like reading shorthand. We already know what DA, RA, USAR, CO, TDY, RON, TRADOC, SWC, etc etc mean and in some cases, we don't spell out the acronym, we say it phonetically, like "Tradoc" instead of T R A D O C. Some we say, some we spell, so those are kind of forgivable but Mr. Dove rarely says military time correctly, even after five books. When he sees "1000 hours" he likes to say "One thousand hours", or "2000 hours" he says "Two thousand hours". Hasn't anyone told him how to say military time? "Ten hundred hours" or "Twenty hundred hours". Runways at airports are spoken as each digit, not a number. So runway 18 is spoken as "One Eight" not "eighteen". WEB Griffin himself makes a few mistakes here with a runway 45 and runway 39 (I think). Runway numbers are based on the 360 degrees of a compass and aligned accordingly. Runway 18 is a compass heading of 180 degrees. Runway 09 is 090 degrees. The opposite runway is 27 or 270 degrees. Makes it easy for pilots to ensure they are landing on the correct runway so there could never be a runway 45 or 39. These are my only complaints. Mr Dove is otherwise outstanding.

As a career Army officer and aviator, The Brotherhood of War was required reading for me and my buddies in OCS. Later, I would give a copy of The Lieutenants to newly commissioned officers as a gift. My only complaint is the mispronunciation of places and things by the reader. Also, he doesn’t know military acronyms and just spells them out rather than saying what they mean. TDY=temporary duty, for example. But otherwise he’s great!
